la boheme

so...i went to the opera with my mom and my sister last night. we went to this italian opera called la boheme.
basic plot: guy(rudolfo) meets girl(mimi). the two of them aren't exactly in a great place economically, but they still fall in love. then, rudolfo finds out that mimi's sick. it's not that hard to guess what happens, but i don't want to spoil it for you(hint, "rent" is based off it).
anyways, it was one of the best shows i've ever seen. the four leads all had amazing voices and were absolutely perfect for the parts they played. my personal favorite was the person who played musetta(the on again, off again girlfriend of rudolfo's friend, mascetto). she was really good and acted just like i imagined the character would act.
i can't even explain how amazing it was. by the end, i was sobbing because it was so sad and the music was so beautiful. all of you should try to see la boheme at least once. after you watch it, you understand where a lot of musicals get their ideas/theme musics from. it's just that good.

i did it!!!

omg....i did it!!! i made it to 50,000 words on my novel for nanowrimo. actually, i went a little above. i made it to 50,068 words. does this mean that the novel is done being written? of course not. i still have a lot of writing left to do before my roughest of rough drafts is even close to being done. but it doesn't matter. i did it. i beat nanowrimo. i am a "winner". i have collected my "winner's goodies"
i'm actually rather proud of myself. when i began, i was all "oh. 50,000 words. how hard can it be?" actually, it is hard. there were days when i wanted to give up because my characters just wouldn't do what they told me to or when i was frantically typing in an attempt to write 250 words in a minute so that i could meet the deadline. but in the end, i made. i reached 50,000 words. and i am proud of myself.

did you know...

you can't buy the beatles on iTunes??? doesn't that seem oddly messed up and unfair to you??? it's the beatles for goodness sakes...not allowing on iTunes is a crime...and it's all EMI's fault...Paul Mc Cartney is willing to let the Beatles be on iTunes...
although, i guess it's a good thing. my mother always complains that iTunes is destroying cds and record stores and whatnot...i'm actually rather conflicted about the whole beatles thing.
i like iTunes. i only use it for the free songs(they had Christmas songs! i love christmas songs!) and for the weird iTunes radio...but i don't really buy stuff from iTunes anymore. considering i only have fifty four cents left.
that's all folks.

just to clear things up.

"arthur read": obviously, some people think that cillian murphy is attractive and people can have opinions. in my opinion, he may not be the hottest guy alive, but he's still good-looking.
okay...i'm make a petition to have my mother add actual applications on to her new touch. i'm going to start out with trying to get 10 signatures...if you want to add a signature, just post a comment saying "i add my signature to the petition" or something like that...
um...no. i don't have a boyfriend. why do you ask?
male celebrity for this post: james roday. he plays shawn spencer on "psych" and is amazing...it's not so much that he's cute but that his character has an amazing personality. also, he is one of the funniest tv actors out there(hugh laurie is a little more funny). two of my friends got into a fight over which one of them he'd like better...long story...

100th post

oh my golly gee...this is my 100th post.
pretty exciting, huh???
and i'm going to spend it talking about tetris.
might i just say that tetris is the most fun game ever. not to mention the most addicting...and i suck at it, but it's still so much fun to play...i wish my mother would let me download it on to her iTouch. along with that bubble wrap and light saber application...might i just say how much i love that light saber application???
um...maybe i should start a petition to force my mom to download the lightsaber app. if you are at all interested, please sign up...

sorry but...

um...sorry but i don't think i'm going to talk about guys on this blog. i've learned that it's not the best idea to talk about people who i personally know online. long story. but there will be no gossip about guys that i know on this blog...don't kill me.
but i will, however, talk about male celebrities...
to "mary ellen": i totally agree with you. cillian murphy is a god among men...he was so amazing in "batman begins". he was the best bit of that movie...i'm glad we have something in common...
um...my sister qualified for the jr. olympics for fencing(epee). i'm really happy for her. i bet she did a pretty good job(i wasn't there).
um...i'm trying to retype my short story that won the short story contest for palo alto weekly. basically, i need to send them an electronic copy, but i kind of deleted it off my computer...long story...

10,000

o.m.g.
i am so close to finishing nanowrimo. i have just over 10,000 words left...that is almost nothing... i remember when i had over 30,000 words left and i thought i'd never finish the thing. but now i think i will finish it. and as much as i love it, i'm kind of getting sick of my attempted novel. why can't my characters do what i want them to? it's not that hard. sometimes, i'm tempted just to give up and let kayla and del and aaron and all the rest just run rampant in my imagination. and then i realize that by doing that, i will have given up. and i don't want to give up on something this amazing...i'm going to finish this novel, even if it kills me.
and the lovely thing is that i have until next sunday to finish it. and i can easily write the remaining 10,000 words by next saturday. now i'm getting all anxious...
cheers!

new topic...

okay. thanks to one of my anonymous commenters, i have something to talk about. myself.
basically, i was born in los angeles on the same day as my sister catherine(duh!). i lived in los angeles until i was about two and a half. then, we moved up to northern california. we lived in ladera for a few months. then, we lived in menlo park from when i was three until i was around seven. right before second grade we moved to woodside. and that's where i've lived ever since. it only took a few years to get used to living in the middle of the wilderness(kidding, woodside isn't that remote). but now i love woodside, even if i complain about it all the time.
um....what else can i say about myself...my favorite color is either light green or light grey(as my roommate in england discovered pretty quickly). i want to live on the east coast when i grow up. i want to go to Williams for college. and i want to become a published novelist, hopefully before i'm thirty. um...my favorite thing to have for dinner would be macaroni and cheese. um...can't think of anything else to say...

okay. guys. i need your help...
i honestly have no idea what to talk about on this blog...it's another 2 months before obama becomes president...there aren't any major scandals going on. school's pretty boring.
honestly...what is there to talk about that all of you are interested in reading that has nothing to do with twilight or with boys????
if anyone has any ideas of what i should talk about, please tell me.

house of bernarda alba

so...i went to see the upper school play, house of bernalda alba. it was absolutely amazing.
to quickly summarize: house of bernalda alba(hoba) is about a mother and five daughters in mexico. the father of the family has died. the eldest daughter is engaged. the youngest daughter loves her sisters fiancee. the mother abuses the daughters.
sound bleak? it is. i don't think there was one moment that made me want to laugh because it was funny. maybe because i felt uncomfortable. but not because it was funny. but even so, hoba was amazing. after watching it, i really began thinking about some of the issues it brings up.
i would really suggest seeing it if you haven't already. the cast and crew did an amazing job and even if you don't like bleak stuff, go see it. please.

apology #2

i'd like to apologize for some of my posts about twilight. people were saying how it seemed i was making fun of people who liked twilight. i wasn't trying to do that. there are entire websites devoted to that.
how about this for a deal: i don't talk about twilight. you guys don't talk about twilight/ask me why i don't like it. that might keep fighting down to a minimum.

ps. see "o brother were art thou." best move ever.

the host

let me just clear the air. i don't hate everything by stephenie meyer. i liked her book "the host". hopefully, she won't write a sequel to it because i loved the way it ended.
why did i like the host? hmm...let me see...the plot was very engaging and was cool twist on the whole bodies-being-invaded-by-aliens things. and it had a pretty good love triangle-thing going on. and i loved the characters, especially the two romantic interests(jared and ian). why? because they were really realistic and easy to relate to...and nothing says romance like giving a girl Cheetos(note: i'm being serious)
since i'm bored, i decided to cast the host. here goes...
melanie: carey mulligan. she would be so perfect. not even kidding. look her up if you haven't heard of her
ian: i was thinking jj fields...he was so great in northanger abbey...or maybe james d'arcy. also a good actor. or maybe even jake gyllenhaal(but he might be too old).
jared: rupert penry-jones. no questions asked. or maybe dominic cooper(from the duchess/mama mia)
jamie: thomas sangster. most adorable kid. ever.
uncle jeb: not sure....
the seeker: sophia myles. she's pretty in a very cold way. or christina ricci.
kyle: i can only see hugh jackman playing him.
doc: hugh laurie. i know it's so stereotypical, but it'd be so good. hugh laurie is really talented.
this all i have cast wise. what do you think?

clarifications

random stuff that's been bugging me/needs clearing up:
1. since when is michael cera indie??? i think most people know who he is...
2. josie maran in this model who went to my school...most casti girls would understand...
3. i know that the name of the guy who played cedric diggory
4. this isn't a clarification but i read this doctor who fansite and all these rabid fangirls were like "omg... r-patz should be the next doctor. or maybe zac efron..." if that happens, i will fly to cardiff and stab steven moffat and rtd with a spoon. i refuse to have my favorite show corrupted like that...the season 4 finale was upsetting enough...
5. i was freaking out that my main character in my nanowrimo was a mary sue so i took the official "mary-sue" test...guess what??? kayla is safe from being a mary sue...i was very relieved. for those of you who don't know, mary sue's are characters who are nauseatingly perfect.
6. i'm not seeing twilight because i refuse to spend money on a movie that i have no interest in seeing. not because it's going against the flow. i learned that just because lots of people are seeing a movie doesn't mean it's any good(potc is good example). frankly, i'd rather see "milk" or "frost vs. nixon" or "the road"
7. i should start working on my history/english essays. oh joys.
8. good luck to everyone in "house of bernalda alba". i'll be there on friday supporting you.
extra51

okay. i'm a loser.

yes. it's true. i'm not going to see twilight. that is official. instead, i shall be going to see my school's play on friday night. and on saturday and sunday, i shall be at fencing competitions and watching tv(i have two new doctor who confedentials...) and honestly, i have a feeling that after this weekend, it's not going to be as big...
i'm still mad at twilight. despite what warner bros says, i blame them for why harry potter isn't coming out until the summer and why the road isn't coming out until at least 2009. and for why james bond won't be king of the box office like it deserves. and why no one will want to watch milk. honestly. who'd want to see a movie about one of the most important men in san francisco and political history who gets killed because of his sexuality(among other things) when they could be watching a movie about a girl who falls in love with a vampire?
personally, i shall be working on nanowrimo and watching all the milk trailers. and maybe seeing james bond again.

odyssey cast

fine...i'll cast the odyssey...by the way, when i refer to the actor who portrays edward cullen as "cedric diggory" it is because i refuse to call him a ridiculous and pointless nickname like "spunk ransom". actors should be called by their real names(ie. billie piper, kate winslet, george clooney etc.) or by their screen names. but not some ridiculous nickname.
on to the odyssey cast...
odysseus: this one was very hard. i ended up going for robert downey jr./rufus sewell. both of them can look really wheathered if they need to/have these incredibly deep eyes...
penelope: rachel weisz. amazing actress. looks just like what i pictured penelope to look like.
telemachus: another hard one...i'm in between harry lloyd who is amazing. and michael cera, who has the awkward teen thing down perfectly...if only thomas sangster was old enough...he'd be amazing
athena: kate blanchette. must you ask?
the suitors: i was thinking that russell brand/richard armitage could play the two main obnoxious suitors. russell could be alkinoos and richard could be the other one...
kirke: angelina jolie. another obvious one.
calypso: josie maran...
eurykleia: helen mirren. amazing actress. would be perfect
nausikaa: ellen page/olivia thirlby
i think that's all the main characters. if i left out someone hugely important, tell me. also, tell me what you think of this cast...i know it's not as good as the twilight cast, but i tried

the lovliness of not having facebook

i'll admit it. i miss facebook a bit. it feels weird not to go on to my home page on facebook the second i get home from school and turn my computer. but at the same time it's really relaxing. i don't need to worry about what's going on in the cyber world quite as much as i used to. i mean, i need to worry about what i say on this blog, but not having facebook gives me one less thing to stress out about. although i do miss pieces of flair.
and on the plus side, i won't have to listen to people squealing about the "twilight" movie on friday. i already know that there's no way on earth that i'm going to see it. yes. i know that makes me a totally weirdo and loser. and if i was on facebook, i'd be reminded of that even more.
i used to like twilight. before they made a movie. with cedric diggory. and before breaking dawn was published. and before fanpires came around. actually, i like "the host" much better. it had a pretty original plot and much more likeable characters.
but what i really hate is when people say stephenie meyer is the next jk rowling. jk rowling is a god who has proved that some books(but not all) should be over 600 pages and that some books can have sub-sub-sub-sub plots(but not all). and plus, the harry potter movies are awesome...even if harry is totally annoying in the fifth one. plus, jk rowling comes up with the best couples(ron/hermione and tonks/lupin). and she's not afraid to kill major, popular characters off ala severus snape and remus lupin and sirius black. maybe if stephenie meyer had killed off alice/jasper(who were the only two likeable characters in the series), i'd like her a lot more. who knows. maybe if she writes another sci-fi novel.
wow...that was a huge rant...better get back to my nanowrimo...

thanks....but no thanks

a lot of you have asked me to maybe give my dream cast for my novel. sadly, i won't be doing that for two big reasons.
1. if it ever gets published and made into a movie, it won't be for a few years, so all my ideas as to who should play who will be too old.
2. all the main characters are teenagers. i have no wish to see my characters being corrupted and portrayed by the likes of disney channel stars, who would most likely play them.
sorry...i guess i won't be making up a cast for it anytime soon.
however, if you want me to cast other books into movies, give me suggestions.

just to clear something up

okay. so people have been asking me where my facebook has gone. here's the answer:
my parents wanted me to delete because they felt i wasn't using it appropriately. and you know what? they were totally right.
so. they had me disactivate. and actually, not having a facebook is very relaxing. i don't spend as much time online or as much time worrying about what's going on on facebook. it's helped me take a step back from technology and work on other things(nanowrimo).
but don't worry. i might get my facebook back eventually, but in the meantime, if you want to talk to me, either try to do so in person or email me.

twilight cast

i was feeling bored this morning. so i watched the trailer for "twilight" and started feeling really depressed about the horrible casting decisions. so, i decided to make my own cast, if i had the power to make such important decisions.
so. here it is:
bella swan- kat dennings(she was nora in "nick and norah's infinite playlist". she looks exactly what i imagined bella to look like. and she's a great actress. double plus.)
edward cullen-this one was really hard. i wanted to have henry cavill be edward because he would be perfect. but he's too old...in which case, ed westwick("gossip girl") would be good. just as long as it isn't cedric diggory.
jacob black- steven strait(i know he's a bit old to be playing a younger jacob, but he'd be amazing as older jacob).
carlisle- jesse spencer(blonde, gorgeous, has already played a doctor before...)
esme-anne hathaway(when i first found out they were making a movie, i could only see esme being played by her)
alice- olivia thirlby(she might not look like alice, but they can use makeup and stuff. she was really good in "juno" and has the right attitude)
emmett- kellan lutz(i actually agreed with this casting decision)
rosalie- olivia wilde/megan fox(both have the right look, even if they aren't blonde. once again, wigs and makeup can be used)
jasper- trent ford(he has the right look. plus, stephenie meyer said that who she wanted to play jasper. that must count)
james-cillian murphy(does anyone remember him as the scarecrow in "batman begins"?)
victoria- another hard one...i have no idea who should play her.
laurent-john stamos/jason isaacs
charlie-bill campbell.
so. what do you guys think? any other movies i should attempt to mentally cast?

fine...

people have been asking about the novel i'm writing for nanowrimo, so i will explain a bit about the plot and post a small excerpt of it.
basically, the novel is about this girl named Kayla who's a sophmore in high school and about her life and stuff...pretty stereotypical and stuff. nothing that exciting. basically, 3/4s of it is told through Kayla's perspective. and the other 1/4...well, basically, Kayla's best friend Delilah wants to be an author so the other 1/4 is excerpts of the novel Delilah's trying to write...so it's kinda like i'm writing 2 novels. okay. here's the excerpt:
My cell phone rings.
"Hello? Might I ask who's-"
"Kayla? Where are you? I've been waiting for you for almost twenty minutes." It's Andrew. And he sounds pissed. That's rare. The last time he sounded so mad was when we found out who McCain's running mate is.
"Sorry. I had a track thing."
"And you couldn't have told me about it?" Andrew asks.
"I found out about it during lunch."
"And you couldn't have told me about it?" Andrew repeats. I can't help but wincing. He does have a point.
"I'm sorry. Look, I didn't mean to forget."
"Okay. It's fine." Andrew doesn't so much sound pissed as upset. In some ways, that's even worse. I hate it when I make Andrew upset. He gets all quiet and doesn't really talk much. It's awful.
"Do you want me to still come over? I should be home by half an hour."
"Um…"
"Come on, Andrew. You can't honestly expect me to let you watch Burn Gorham all on your own. What kind of friend would I be if I did that?" I wait to hear Andrew's laugh. Nothing. Crap.
"I'll ask my mom. Maybe you could come over after dinner."

i hope you like it! tell me what you think

halfway done...

just a quick note. i have officially reached 25000 words and am halfway done with nanowrimo...i can't believe it. the novel is going quite well and is about 55 pages, single spaced. i've been having so much fun writing it. but now i should probably go to sleep b/c it's quite late.
extra51

the novel

so. here is the plan regarding my nanowrimo novel.
1. i'm going to finish it. or attempt to get to 50,000 words and to an ending.
2. i'm going to get rid of the truly awful bits.
3. i'm going to give it to a few close family members/friends to read it.
4. i'm going to post it.
so yeah. don't expect to get to read it until december 2008/january 2009. and if you do get to read it, it'll be a very very rough draft. just so everyone knows the plan.

quantam of solace

so...i saw the new james bond movie. it was absolutely amazing...you know how for a bit, the batman movies were kind of made fun of(i'm thinking the one with george clooney and the unfortunate bat suit) and then christopher nolan comes along and makes batman begins/the dark knight? that's kind of how i felt with the james bond movies... they were nothing amazing, fun to watch, but didn't have amazing characters/plot lines. and then casino royale comes along and is amazing. and then quantam of solace...
i have a strong feeling that a lot of people won't love q of s(as i like calling it) because it's a lot about the inner turmoil james is going through and not just random explosions(although there are plenty).
but you should all go see it at least once.

so...the week's almost over

wow...this has been a pretty crazy week...on so many levels...
1. thanks to everyone who's commented on the last few posts...it means so much.
2. nanowrimo is going amazing...i've managed to get ahead of the word count i need to be on. which is good because i won't have much time this weekend, which is my main writing time. i'm trying to hit 25000 words by tomorrow afternoon and i'll be halfway there! kind of exciting and a little scary...
3. this weekend is so totally packed for me. on saturday, i have this thing called ludi. ludi is basically this latin convention for latin students. you take a few tests and can go to workshops and play games and certamen(this latin jeopardy thing). i know it sounds weird, but ludi can be pretty fun. i haven't gone for a few years and i'm actually pretty excited. and then on sunday, i have a fencing competition up in berkley. should also be fun, if a little long. but fencing competitons are always long. i'll just get homework done during it.
4. um...i'm starving. and i'm trying to keep from going into the kitchen and eating one of the totally delicious brownies my mom made...someone distract me from my stomach!
5. my new contacts came which means i won't have to wear glasses again, which is good b/c they gave me a huge headache.
6. chommondley is good, but xerxes is temporarily missing, which is a problem.

i was really interested to read people's responses to my post "apology". i thought it was interesting how the second person to respond to "offended by anonymous 2" (do you guys have to all use 'anonymous' as your name?) said that other people can't tell you who or what you are. that's a good point. we decide who we are. we have to defy the label's of others...that's something i need to work on.
and "offended by anonymous 2": you're right. if you need to say something mean about someone, first off, don't try to say it. but if you have to, don't say it in a place where everyone can see/hear. i made that mistake and now i really wish i hadn't.
and a huge thank you to whoever said that by apologizing, i was really sorry. i really appreciate it.

the infamous novel...

some of you have expressed interest in getting to read the novel i'm writing for nanowrimo. i might put it up.
but as a warning: it is BAD. the point of it is just to write it and not care about how it sounds. so if it sucks, don't be too harsh in your criticism.
and i know that the dialouge sounds really fake most of the time. i haven't had much practice talking to guys, so i don't know how to write guys talking...and i know bits of it are pretty unrealistic/cheesy. just deal. it's not like i'm a published author.
extra51

apology

i'm willing to admit it. i've said pretty bad things about people on facebook. honestly, i think everyone who has a facebook most likely has at one point or another. i mean, you can always delete what you said and no one will be the wiser. not really. it never goes away and you look and feel awful.
i'd just want to apologize to all the people i've hurt through facebook. i'm pretty sure that i didn't mean over 90% of all the bad stuff i said. but the people i hurt didn't know that. i just want to say sorry.
i think all of us are guilty of this at one level or another. and even though this sounds totally cheesy and stupid, i really wish we all could get along. but thanks to human nature, that's impossible.
once again, i'm sorry for all the people i've hurt, even if i didn't mean to. i hope you guys will all understand how awful i feel about it now, especially after hearing how upset other people are.
i'm so sorry.
amelia

weirdness

by the way, did anyone catch that today's 11/11. how weird is that? i can't wait for it to be 11/11/11.

nanowrimo and pumpkin spice lattes

so...i haven't really been writing that much lately...there's a fairly good reason for that...remember how i said it was weird that i had almost no homework lately??? well, it turns out i had a right to be worried...they are dumping the homework on us by the ton...i have an english essay, history essay, major art project, tons of math problems...and i'm sure a lot of you are in the same boat(never got that expression).
and there's another reason. it's nanowrimo right now. for those who don't know, nanowrimo stands for national novel writing month. basically, you try to write 50,000 words(which is obviously a novel...) by novemeber 30. i've written about 19500 words...it's pretty fun, but kind of stressful...
last little thing: has anyone had the pumpkin spice lattes from starbucks??? most amazing drink. ever. go drink one if you haven't yet.

garlic pizza

oh my god...i had the most amazing thing for dinner last night. four words. round table's garlic pizza. it was the most amazing thing ever. it's basically, cheese, bread, meat, tomatoes and garlic sauce. i was in heaven while i was eating it, even though i had to brush my teeth for ten minutes afterwards so i could the taste of garlic out my mouth...but it was so worth it.
usually, i hate round table's pizza. but then, every once in a while round table actually makes a somewhat good type of pizza. like the amazing garlic pizza. or this thing called "wombo combo" which is basically cheese, bread and meat...so good...
personally, i like either pizza express or spot's pizza the best. the problem is that pizza express is only in the u.k. which is too bad because it is sooo good...and they have the best garlic bread stuffed with motzrella ever. i know it sounds nasty, but it is the best thing. ever. and then there's spots...spot's is this pizza place in palo alto. usually i hate the crust on pizza, but the stuff on spot's is amazing. and they have the best pesto pizza(instead of tomato sauce, it has pesto sauce).
great. now i'm hungry.

not so normal saturday

i am in love. with saturday. i am so glad that today was a saturday...i was actually able to somewhat sleep in. well, until my sister came into my room to ask me if i wanted to watch ugly betty...which we did. and then we watched four straight episodes of doctor who confidential...which involved a lot of yelling along the lines of "omg! david tennant!" and "blow it up!"...
i wish i could say that the rest of saturday so far has been very restful, but sadly, i'd be lieing. there was an incident with a dvd that was stuck in chommondley that had to be pulled out in a very complicated manuever involving a paper clip and quite a bit of chapstick...both the dvd and chommondley seem to be all right...
aside from that, and some screaming from my sister and father that has something to do with some soccer game, saturday's been pretty good. once again, i have barely any homework which i can't help but find a little suspicious...

i'm so happy...i got to see daniel v. from project runway speak tonight. he was probably my favorite designer on the show. ever. and anyone with any sense knows he should have won season 2 and not chloe... his designs were definitly the best.
listening to him talk was really interesting. i already know that i could never be a designer since i have no artistic ability whatsoever. but i'd really love to maybe edit a fashion magazine. i love getting to look at what designer's are doing and thinking about whether or not i like them and how fashion editors get to choose what to put in their magazines. it's a really interesting process in my opinion. i'm really interested in journalism as well, which means i could always get a job writing for a magazine if editing fails...
regardless, getting to meet daniel was amazing. he was a great speaker and i had tons of fun...
what is my father doing with a guitar??? it's really weird sounding...

in response

someone sent me a link to a website about a christian view about gay rights. some parts of it i agreed with. the bit were it says that all humans should be treated equally came to mind. but the bit were it said that people can choose to be gay/lesbian really made me mad. i read in some science magazine that there was a study that proves over 80% of people are bisexual to some degree and don't even realize it. you can't choose to be gay. it's not like one day you wake up and think: "hm...i think i'm only going to like people the same gender as me and be discriminated against." honestly, if people could chose to be homosexual, do you really think anyone would put themselves through that? and it also was saying that people who have two parents of the same sex miss out on a normal childhood and are more likely to become homosexual. excuse me? studies have proved that children raised by two poeple of the same gender are more likely to be more tolerant and are just as likely to be homosexual as a child raised by a hetro couple. and the article also said that same sex couples are more likely to be unhappy than hetro couples. well, you'd be unhappy too if people were discriminating against you left and right...
and honestly, considering that over 50 percent of all marriages that church likes fail, maybe it's time to try something new.

epiphany

so...the big anti-gay thing in the bible can be found at leviticus 18:22. the exact passage is "you shall not lie with a male as with a woman; it is an abomination." well, it turns out that this passage was mistranslated. according to those people who study the bible for a living, the word that is translated "abonmination" actually means "a foreign practice". that's definitly a rather big mistake...are things wrong because other cultures do them??? no...it's totally annoying how a simple mistranslation can ruin so many people's lives.
and besides, people ignore a lot of the bible. we don't usually preform animal sacrafices or kill people who commit divorce. either, we should follow all of the bible or we should follow none of it. you can't just pick and choose.
let's hope prop 8 gets overturned soon

sigh...

the election is over so i basically have ran out of things to talk about. it was so much fun when i could give my opinions on politics/props and bash candidates i didn't like. and all that's over. except for prop 8. i really hope it'll be overturned. otherwise i will be mad. at least we still have gavin newsom on our side...i really would love to meet him...
what to talk about? in bhutan they crowned a new guy king. his coronation was really insane. his name is jigme khesar namgyel wangchuck and he is 28, which makes him the current youngest reigning monarch. pretty cool, no? his coronation is pretty insane. there are all this pictures of it on bbc. if you're interested the link is: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/in_pictures/7712451.stm. check it out. it's pretty cool. and sorry if you have to copy and past the link.
give me ideas of what to talk about.

only read if you care about england

just a warning: this post is about stuff to do with english entertainment. DO NOT read if you're not interested in this topic. if you aren't interested in it and read it anyways and are completely bored, don't go whining about it in the comments section. it was your own fault.
now. on to the main article...
1. it's somewhat official. russell brand is coming to america. he's been signed on for at least three movies that should come out in the us in 2009, including a remake of the tempest with helen miren. if you don't like him, you better get used to him.
2. st trinian's should be coming out in the united states somewhat soon. and they are most likely making a sequel.
3. i saw a video that showed filming for the third season of torchwood. it was just people running around. the people in it were: jack and gwen, someone who i was assuming was ianto, and someone who i didn't recognize? could it be a new character/love interest for one of the main characters? maybe. and is torchwood going to be any good without tosh and owen? and with it becoming more family friendly?
4. right now, for the next doctor i either want it to be patterson joseph. after over 45 years, the doctor should be played by a minority. it could celebrate barack obama(supposedly steven moffat really likes him). or i want him played by james mcavoy. he's very talented and it could get american interest in the show.
5. the third season of robin hood is supposed to start in january on bbc(yes i watch it and have been waiting for it avidly). the producers have said nothing about will/djaq coming back, which would be too bad since they were my favorite characters. but richard armitage realized in an interview that guy has a sister and she'll be a character in this season. and jonas armstrong is leaving after this season.
if you have any information on any of these topics/questions you want answered, i'll try to find answers to the best of my ability.

disenchanted

seriously california??? seriously??? we known throughout the nation as one of the few states who actually care enough about human rights to allow everyone, straight or gay, to get married. and then we just turn right around and change our minds. how hypocritical and awful is that??? and i feel so bad for all those people who got married while marriage was actually legal. does anyone know if their marriages are still valid??? if they weren't, that would suck. imagine being married and then being told that your marriage doesn't count because the person you love is the same gender as you? how discriminatory is that?
i just read that prop 8 isn't officially passed and has to be reviewed by the california supreme court to make sure it doesn't violate any constitutional rights...and since the california supreme court was what made gay marriage legal in the first place, i bet they'll find that it violate rights. because prop 8 DOES violate basic rights. according to the equal protection clause, american citizens aren't allowed to be discriminated against. and this is definitly discriminating against our gay and lesbian citizens...
and even if it does pass, i'm sure that gavin newsom(the mayor of san francisco) will just pass out marriage certificates to same sex couples like he did in 2004. he did it in 2004. why can't he do it again?
hoping prop 8 won't pass somehow

little request

guys...
could everyone stop leaving comments under "anonymous"? you don't need to put down your real name. put down "rainbow" or something. it's just really tedious to be like "thank to the third anonymous who commented on...". it's really hard for me to keep track of who is saying what. let me repeat: you DO NOT have to use your real name. just don't all comment as anonymous. i'm sorry if it's hard, but it'd make it easier for me(and others) to respond to people's comments.
thanks.

a new era

i'm still in shock that obama won. i thought it couldn't happen because it seems almost too good to be true. but it's not because he won.
might i just say that i LOVED the speech he gave. it was amazingly eloquent and heartfelt and beautiful and it made me want to start crying...it was so good. i am so glad that america pulled itself together and did the right thing by voting for him. maybe we'll actually be respected in the international community. i really think things are going to change for the better. i'm actually excited for the future for once.
and also, let me just say, that his daughters are so adorable. i am so excited to have their be kids in the white house. there haven't been kids in the white house since kennedy. that is way too long.
and by the way, when i said the thing about respecting the people at my school who stood up and voted for mccain, what i meant was that i really respect people who stand up for what they believe in even if they are in the minority. i know that that is something i need to work on.
congratulations obama.

Oh. My. God.

it's official. barrack obama has been elected president of the united states. oh. my. god. barack obama is president of the united states!!! i'm crying. i cn't believe it. i'm crying.
i can't believe it. barack obama is the president of the united states. for the first time since 1963, we will have young children in the white house. i am slowly having my faith in humanity restored. now, if only prop 4 and prop 8 won't pass. then life would be perfect...
this is reminding me of martin luther king and john kennedy. they both were so young and completely changed america and american politics. he is the next martin luther king/john kennedy. except he won't die. he can't die. he has so much to do.
i'm suddenly proud of america. we had the sense to vote for barack obama. i think america will really change. i really think it will.
i'm really sorry for all the supporters of john mccain. i know you guys worked hard, but barack did win.

some last thoughts

the one thing that i hated about this election was all the negativity. in honor of that, i will say one thing positive/one thing negative about each canidate, just to prove that all the canidates have some good and bad in them.
1. obama. pro: he can inspire people amazingly well and he is the change we need. he has great economic/foregin/domestic policies. con: he has almost no expierence and what will happen when he makes a mistake?
2. mccain. pro: he's been in politics for over 20 years and knows the system really well. also, he has some pretty good immigration policies. con: he's anti-abortion and has voted the same as bush 90% of the time.
3. biden. pro: he has some pretty amazing foreign policies credintials and has lots of expierence, as well as an amazing smile. con: he misspeaks. a lot.
4. palin. pro: she is a really good communicator and can rally people very well. it's kind of amazing how far she's gotten. con: she uses her power in the wrong way and frankly, i don't like her or her policies.
the people i really feel bad for are 1. willow palin. willow is the middle palin child and i've read quotes by her and she feels really down to earth. too bad her mother/family is the nation's laughing stock. 2. i also feel bad for the people at my school who are pro-mccain/prop 8. my school is pretty liberal and pro-obama and pro-gay marriage and i think it's really brave of people to stand up and say that they disagree with the crowd and vote mccain in the mock election. good job guys. i wish i could be that brave.
more news on the election to follow.

quick note

just wanting to clear a few things up.
1. i am an obama supporter. i believe that he should be our president. HOWEVER, i don't think that mccain is the anti-christ. i have great respect for him. i just don't believe in everything he stands for. that is all. god. people need to learn that you can respect someone, but not like them.
2. i'd really like to thank all the people who've been standing up for me against nasty comments. i think it's really nice that you guys are doing that and i really really appreciate it, especially since i don't know who you are and can't thank you in person. so thank you.
3. i'd really like to thank the person(people) who wrote the positive comments on "dst" and "days off". you know who you are. reading them made me feel so happy. thanks so much...
my next post will most likely be about the election.
thanks for all the positive(and negative) feedback
extra51

one more day...

the election is tomorrow...i'm really really worried. i don't know why but i just can't obama actually becoming president. it seems too good to be true. but i also can't see mccain actually winning. maybe if he hadn't chosen sarah palin, things would be different, but...
did you all hear about obama's grandma. i think that's so sad. if she had lived 36 hours she might have seen her grandson be the first non-white president. so close, yet so far...
the one thing i'm terrified of happening is that prop 8 will pass. people should get to marry who they want to. and it never says exactly in the bible(to my limited knowledge) that marriage is the union between a man and a woman...
by the way, i did know that torchwood is an anagram of doctor who. what kind of whovian would i be if i didn't know that?
extra51

no title because i'm too lazy to think of one...

i just realized something...people who say other people are closed-minded are just as close-minded. i realized that from reading hundreds of comments related to videos about obama, mccain, harvey milk and gay marriage. and i have to admit, while i am still strong for gay marriage being legal, i've gained a little more respect for mccain, which would be great if he hadn't chosen sarah palin as a v.p., and i can see why people might find his policies attractive. does that make me close-minded? well, if that did, than a lot of my friends who i think are open-minded would be very close-minded. and personally, i think that not knowing that chinese is homophonic language does not make me closed-minded, like some people might think...okay this rant is over.
next topic: thanks to everyone who is saying that only nice posts should be published. that is a nice idea, but sometimes, i need the harsh criticism so i can learn what i'm doing wrong. a balance would be lovely: criticism that is about my style of writing/opinions on topics i write about and not criticism on my looks or personality. sounds good to everyone?
last thing: to all those whovians out there who read this...what do you think of the list bbc released as potential next doctors? i really patterson joseph gets it and becomes the first african-american doctor. although, james mcavoy would be fun as the doctor and could get american interest in the show...
that's all...i need to start getting ready for school.

wow...

i wrote a post around five/ten minutes ago and i got three comments...i don't think i've ever gotten so many comments so quickly...obviously i'm not the only person who is really really bored right now...
i'm sorry if i made a mistake with the french. i don't speak french. i take latin. i think i can say five words in french. maybe six. not quite sure...
to the second anonymous(the one who wrote two comments): i update as much as i can. the thing is, i sometimes have trouble thinking of things to say...which is why i don't update all the time...by the way, you're comments are really nice...
um...i also like it when "i love you" comments...but i can't control when they choose to comment or not. if you want them to comment, you can ask them nicely...
extra51

double meaning

do you know what is annoying?
the word for school in latin is also the word for games. games and school are nothing alike. in fact, they are polar opposites. so why would you have a word that has two completely opposite meanings??? it makes no sense. and also, the word to eat and to be are the same word...that could cause some complications
it's like in french that means nightclub and box...which is really weird...
whoever invented language/came up with the vocab/whatever is really weird and had some major issues...
i actually don't even know why i'm writing this blog at the moment...i guess i'm just antsy from waiting for the election...

prank calls

as you might know, i've been following the election through "election 2008" on bbc. i've been using bbc to get a somewhat non-biased view on politics. fine. they are a little anit-bush...and today i learned the most genius thing...
basically, sarah palin was pranked called by this canadian comedian named marc antoine audette or something who pretended to be the french president...and she believed him. they talked about carla bruni and he asked her if they'd like to go on a hunting trip. she said yes and that she'd be a better shot than cheney...she also said that she'd like to try to be president in eight years...that is an interesting thought...
i'm not really sure what i think of prank calls. yes, they can be funny, like with sarah palin. but they can also cause all sorts of trouble. like with russell brand and how he has to resign from bbc. i think that russell brand just made a mistake and overstepped some boundraries. a lot of americans don't like him because he mocked teenager's obsessions with the jonas brothers/twilight, but he is really funny, especially in the movie st. trinians. i suggest you all look him up...it's totally worth it...

so close...

another my posts where i comment on my comments/ramble
1. thanks so much to everyone who helped me on the whole dst thing...since it only happens twice a year, i forget which is which...but it was so lovely having an extra hour of sleep. i needed it...
2. next week shall be...interesting...even though i have a history test tomorrow, i'll only be able to think about and get worried about the election...it's on tuesday...and i'm getting a bit stressed about it...
3. yes. i have friends...why do you find that so weird??
4. i am so excited for november 14...the new bond movie comes out then and i really really really want to see it. bbc has only given it great reviews and an actress i really admire is in it
5. remember how i was talking about my cousins and vegas??? turns out the four of us might be allowed to go to the adults...i'm super excited...it'll be my first time in vegas.
6. to the person who commented on "days off". what exactly are you implying?
7. to "i love you": you can keep commenting if you like. i don't mind.
i'm pretty proud of myself at the moment. i set up my homepage so that whenever there is new news about the election from bbc, a new window pops up...i'm so staying on top of this election. go obama...

dst

i had so much fun last night...it was my school's fddd(father-daughter dinner dance). basically, at the fddd, you get all dressed up, go to some nice hotel, eat dinner and dance with your friends/with your dad. it's always pretty fun. and the senior dads always do some dance to completely humiliate themselves.
the year, the theme was the oscars and they had all these cardboard cutouts, so we had tons of fun take pictures in weird poses with the cutouts. and now i'm totally exhausted from staying up until midnight for two days in a row. and my feet kind of hurt from the heels i was wearing last night, but i had so much fun, it was worth it.
however, daylight saving time(dst) happened today and now i'm kind of confused. am i supposed to be tired from losing an hour of sleep or awake from gaining an hour of sleep? i really don't get how dst works out. my friend lives in arizona and doesn't have to deal with it. lucky her. if any of you could explain how dst works and all that fun stuff, i'd be highly indebted.
