countdown...

okay...so we have about an hour(my clock might be a bit off) until it's the new year...so i'm pretty excited...i think that 2009 might start off badly, but i think it has a lot of potential and will end really well...
big news...so, the ting tings, who are this amazingly awesome british band who i love, were playing in the countdown to new year's show. and they were AMAZING...they played their song "shut up and let me go" and it was so cool to watch, even if it was just on tv...katie white, the lead singer, did really well and jules de martino, the other member, was great...
so, yeah...good job ting tings!
hope you guys are having an awesome time waiting for '09!

some quick exciting news...

1. obama finally found a place to stay before he moves into the white house. which is good because his daughters need to go to school. and it's kind of sad that the president-elect had to go through so much trouble to find a place to stay. seriously? seriously?
2. i'm officially going to be in dc for obama's inaguration(whcih i spelled wrong) which is going to be so cool. i'm really excited. over 5 million people(about the population of los angeles) are supposed to be in dc for that week and it is going to be AMAZING. so stay tuned for that...
3. bristol palin had her baby. it's a boy. it's name is trip. i really do wish her and levi johnson the best of luck with raising their kid. i think they've had a pretty tough time of it...i've heard that they are getting married next year and that levi's mom was arrested or something. i'm not really sure about the main details...so good luck you two.
and now the big news...
4. the uk has said that they are officially going to be leaving iraq on may 31, 2009. that is hugely exciting for two reasons. 1. the fact that they are actually getting out of iraq is pretty great and i hope that america can follow their example. and the uk is going to afghanistan which is where we were supposed to be in the first place. and the second reason??? 2. they are leaving iraq on my 15th b-day!!!! that is like the coolest birthday present ever...yeah...so it'll be may 31 and my big birthday present will be reading about how the uk left iraq...so happy early birthday amy...i am SO excited...
yeah. that was the main news.

ps. i'm going to be in la for a few days, so please don't expect to many posts

okay...so...

um...okay...first off, let me apologize b/c i haven't really been posting that much lately and i'm sorry about that, but i was away for part of winter break and i didn't really have the time/energy to post, but i've written a few posts in the last few days to make up for it. but, i was going through my blog and i realized that the last time people really commented was during the whole twilight battle thing.
yeah...so i'd love it if you guys wrote comments like responding to what i've been talking about. like give your opinions about my opinions. and i'd love some constructive criticism. tell me what i'm doing wrong and what could do to improve. but please just don't be like "i think you're stupid/you suck" b/c that isn't very helpful...and please no digs about my personal appearance or anything to do with my family. sounds good?
okay...so PLEASE comment...it would really help me out with what to talk about/how to write and all that. so thanks.

why disney...why???

okay. so...i was bored. like really really bored. like so bored not even gofugyourself could relieve me of my boredom. so, i decided to watch "pocahontas" since it's on youtube and everything...and as i was watching it, i realized how completely amazing disney movies are and how i forgot how much i loved "pocahontas" as a kid. why??? because christian bale is in it!!! he plays thomas, the nerdy kid. and he is so amazing when he's just being a voice actor like in howl's moving castle...so yeah...i'm watching "pocahontas" and i'm finishing it and i see the someone put the sequel up and i'm on this disney movie kick so i decide to watch the sequel. and oh my god...the sequel SUCKS. it was terrible and painful and mel gibson doesn't even play john smith in it and billy zane's in it and ugh...i don't even want to think about it.
so i had to watch aladdin and anastasia to clear my mind. and i forgot how totally awesome aladdin is and how much i love the song "prince ali"...and anastasia was amazing...like...i can't even describe it...i actually never saw that movie as a kid and now i realize why i felt like i was missing out on something for my entire childhood...b/c it is AMAZING and it isn't even disney and it's still good. and now i'm hoping that the "frog princess" won't be bad b/c i'm starting to like disney movies again...and i really want to see the princess bride again, but i think i'll see quest for camelot instead...and i'm rambling...

happy holidays

hey guys...

i hope you're all having a lovely winter break and nice holidays wherever you are. tahoe is lovely and snowy and perfect. i've had tons of fun snowboarding and i can now (somewhat) jump and can ride simple boxes which is very nice. and i went down my first black run on a snowboard which was very exciting...
oh...and my parents got me the most awesome christmas present. well, i think it's awesome. some people might think it's lame. basically, it's a giant book that has the most important front pages from the new york times in it. not the original pages(obviously) but scanned copies. it is so cool...my favorites are the ones from 1850-1900 b/c they are so different from what newspapers look like now. can you believe that the ny times used to be only 10 pages long? isn't that weird...
another great present was finding out that england is going to pull completely out of iraq no later than may 31, 2009...which happens to be my b-day!!! how great a b-day present would that be????

the internet is a lovely thing

thanks to firefox and an unlikely internet connection(my sister managed to hack on to a provider which means we have internet which is rare for up in tahoe) i have discovered that aj jacobs and mcr have blogs!!!
for those who don't know, aj jacobs is this amazingly hilarious(which i've no doubt spelled wrong) author. his claim to fame is writing The Know It All which is about him reading the encyclopedia in a year and The Year of Living Biblically which is about him following every single rule in the Bible. needless to say, he's quite funny and his blog is great. so read it. and read his actual books/articles b/c he's very clever. i have copies of both of his books if you want to borrow them. to find his blog: just type 'aj jacobs' into google. for those who are interested, he has both a facebook and myspace.
and now, for mcr...my chemical romance is one of my favorite bands. i understand that some people don't like their music, but read their blog b/c it's pretty funny and the guys in the band seem hilarious. i was literally laughing out loud during parts of it. to find it: type in "my chemical romance" into google
btw, do you know what's annoying??? the wombats christmas single "this is christmas" is supposed to be on itunes. but it isn't. which is so annoying, but it's on youtube at least.

congratulations you guys...

so...i found out that two of the hotels who were attacked in the mumbai hostage crisis are re-opening and are completely full. i'm not really sure if that's good or bad. i think it's good because it's saying that they are willing to put what happened behind them and aren't going to let themselves be scared by terrorists. and it's super brave of all the people who work at the two hotels...so good job you guys! i'm really proud...

books and movies

as most of us sadly know, when a beloved book becomes made into a movie, it usually ends up being absolutely terrible(example: eragon) and it makes you feel depressed that such a great(or not so great in the case of the alex ryder books) book was totally ruined by the movie making industry. not all books are ruined, of course. personally, i think the movie versions of lord of the rings by peter jackson are better than the books b/c he cut out all the parts that didn't really fit with the rest of the story(the twenty page poems) and still had the movies be great. and the harry potter movies aren't too bad...i mean they could be worse.
but there are certain books that can never become movies. never ever.
1. catcher in the rye. if it was made into a movie, it would ruin everything the book is about(holden hates the movies). and also, it'd be impossible to find a person who could really be holden. i once read somewhere that only jd salinger could really play holden, but he's in his 80s and is a hermit in new jersey, so there goes that idea...honestly, the only movies that even come close is igby goes down(which i've never seen, but heard is really good) and dead poet's society(which i have seen and isn't really the same plot as catcher, but has a lot of the same themes). so, it'd be pretty much impossible for catcher to ever be a movie. and i hope it doesn't.
2. anno dracula. it's such a great book series and i'd hate to see it become another vampire chick-lit like van helsing(which is a great movie, even if it ruins dracula)
3. a tree grows in brooklyn. it might work as a mini-series on tv(bbc this is a hint) but i would never work as a movie. the story itself has too many characters and complex twists and cutting any of them out would be a crime. so a miniseries would be good. but not a movie.
um...that's all i can think of for now...my next post might be talking about what books would make good movies...

freedom...sweet freedom!

okay guys...so...finals are over!!!! so that means i'll probably begin updating somewhat more regularly than i have been updating in the last few weeks. and also, obama's going to be sworn in in a little over a month so then i can go back to talking about politics and all that fun stuff. by the way, do you guys think that palin really will run for president in 2012?
anyways...i'm kind of feeling drained from finals, but at the same time, i feel very self-satisfied. i think that the math one was the hardest and the fact that i managed to finish every problem made me feel really...accomplished...i probably got most of the problems wrong, but i still finished, so it's cool...
um...i don't know what to say...you guys should all see charlie bartlett. it's pretty good and robert downey jr. is in it...and also see milk b/c it is amazing. and have fun over winter break!

finals

so...finals begin tomorrow...that's why i haven't really been updating. i've been too busy studying for math and science and stuff. luckily, i only have finals tomorrow and thursday, so i don't have to go to school on friday. which will be awesome. i think i might sleep.
the one thing i always forget to do during finals is to get enough sleep/eat an actual breakfast. but i'm actually go to try to get at least 9 hours of sleep tonight(i know...shocking)
so...i better get going...i've got math problems to review...
good luck on your finals, you guys!

milk

i saw the movie "milk" this afternoon after school, with my mother and sister. i can't really describe how amazing it was. i just can't. if sean penn doesn't win best actor, i will be devestated. and it will mean that the academy really has something wrong with it(heath ledger and brokeback mountain anyone?)
personally though, my favorite actors in it were either james franco or lucas gabreel. james franco plays scott smith, milk's first partner in the movie. he was so perfect. honestly, scott was probably my favorite character in the film, just because franco did such a great job playing him. also, lucas gabreel(from hsm) was great. he played a photographer who begins working for harvey milk. i was really glad to see an actor who is lumped with all the disney stars to break out and be in such an amazing movie. also: josh brolin was amazing. he is one of the most talented actors out there.
bottom-line: milk is amazing. the newspapers are right. it's the right movie for the right time. watching milk and his team waiting to hear if prop 6(which would fire any gay teachers or those who support them) is passed. the prop 6 scene is exactly like what happened with prop 8. except prop 6 did NOT pass. i began sobbing at that point b/c it shows that we are just going backwards with civil rights. also, milk is all about "change" and "hope". a lot of his speeches sound like obama's speeches. so, now, i'm terrified that obama's going to be killed too(not giving anything away. it's hard to when the movie's based on true events).
bottom line: go see "milk". ask an older sibling to take you. or a parent. it's pretty good to watch with a parent. but see it. just see it.

i capture the castle/cold comfort farm

okay...so...finals are coming up...they're next week!!! i'm kind of worried about them, but then again, who isn't a little freaked out about them? but once they're done, it's winter break...and that means snowboarding and then going to los angeles! pretty excited for both of those things...
and besides, i've found a way to keep from getting to stressed out. so, there are these two books that i absolutely adore. they are called I Capture the Castle and Cold Comfort Farm and they are amazing. and over the weekend, i found out that there are movie versions of them and said movies are both on youtube. so, whenever i've finished my homework and have some extra time before i need to go to bed, i watch part of one.
both of them are really good and they both have actors/actresses i like. I Capture the Castle has Ramola Garai(i'm not sure how you spell her name) and Henry Cavill(he's in that show about the Tudors) in it. and Cold Comfort Farm has Rufus Sewell in it. Rufus Sewell, my friends. That is quite exciting. I love Rufus Sewell. Actually, it's a bit of full-on obsession. But it's not my fault that's he's such a good actor and has such pretty eyes.
anyways, better be getting to bed.
bye luvs!

sorry about the wait guys...

i know i haven't updated in ages and i'm really sorry. it's just that exams have been coming up and i'm sick and stuff...but i'll be better about updating in the future...
for all those dominic cooper(mama mia guy) fans out there, you should check him out in bbc's "sense and sensibility". he plays willoughby and he's great in it. even though i'm obligated to like colonel brandon, dominic cooper is pretty good.
in fact, the whole mini series so far is pretty good. my only complaint is that i feel like their trying to make all the characters look like their counterparts from the 1995 "sense and sensibility"(the one with kate winslet and hugh grant).
that's it...just wanted to tell you all to check out dominic cooper. and maybe even dan stevens...

moulin rouge

might i just say how much i love moulin rouge? i saw it tonight for the first time and i completely loved it. by the end, i was sobbing because it's so beautiful and sad and because i am a total sap for things like that(i cried at the end of the second potc movie). and so i'm sitting there crying and what does my sister do? does she hug me? does she offer me words of kindness? no. she tells me to be quiet so she can hear what's going on. geez. thanks.
despite it's sob-inducing ending(or maybe because of it) moulin rouge is a great movie...where else would you get to hear the amazing jim broadbent with his awesome mustache(best bit of the movie) sing "like a virgin"? or see a drawf named tolouse dress up as a magical sitar? or get to hear ewan mcgregor sing "come what may" and "the sound of music". that was definitly the best part. ewan mcgregor: you are a god...when will you be in another movie? oh, and nicole kidman: why did you dye your hair? it looks so much better red.

random news

okay...just a pretty random post with random junk...
1. i am so excited for this weekend...i don't know why, but this week has been pretty hard. and i feel like it's gone on for forever...
2. the winners of the pa weekly short story contest, including me, are having a reception at keplers on monday night at 7. it'd be great if some of you guys tried to come. there'll be food if that helps...
3. barack obama called this senator from florida and she hung up on him b/c she thought he was prank-caller. isn't that hilarious??? well...i thought it was pretty funny...but it's good to be careful after sarah palin's run-in with a prank caller.
that's all...happy december guys!

anno dracula

okay...so basically, i discovered on of the best books ever. it's called "anno dracula" and it's totally amazing...it's by kim newman and was written in 1992(the year it was written is kind of important) basically, it's premise is: what if dracula killed van helsing and became the ruler of the british empire? what would happen? and what if book characters we took for granted were actually alive?
the plot: someone has been killing new born vampire women in the whitechapel area under the name of "jack the ripper". gwen, a 400-year-old vampire who looks 16, and charles, a human with a failing engagement, work together to solve the mystery and find themselves falling in love(of course). with the help of people like dr. jekyll and oscar wilde, this unlikely duo find themselves trying to catch and murder and maybe even save england.
"anno dracula" is totally amazing...it's really well-written and the way the plot is set up(you know who the murderer is after the first chapter) is really good. i'd really suggest it to anyone who likes good mysteries, dracula or the movie "van helsing". check it out. it's pretty good.

la boheme

so...i went to the opera with my mom and my sister last night. we went to this italian opera called la boheme.
basic plot: guy(rudolfo) meets girl(mimi). the two of them aren't exactly in a great place economically, but they still fall in love. then, rudolfo finds out that mimi's sick. it's not that hard to guess what happens, but i don't want to spoil it for you(hint, "rent" is based off it).
anyways, it was one of the best shows i've ever seen. the four leads all had amazing voices and were absolutely perfect for the parts they played. my personal favorite was the person who played musetta(the on again, off again girlfriend of rudolfo's friend, mascetto). she was really good and acted just like i imagined the character would act.
i can't even explain how amazing it was. by the end, i was sobbing because it was so sad and the music was so beautiful. all of you should try to see la boheme at least once. after you watch it, you understand where a lot of musicals get their ideas/theme musics from. it's just that good.

i did it!!!

omg....i did it!!! i made it to 50,000 words on my novel for nanowrimo. actually, i went a little above. i made it to 50,068 words. does this mean that the novel is done being written? of course not. i still have a lot of writing left to do before my roughest of rough drafts is even close to being done. but it doesn't matter. i did it. i beat nanowrimo. i am a "winner". i have collected my "winner's goodies"
i'm actually rather proud of myself. when i began, i was all "oh. 50,000 words. how hard can it be?" actually, it is hard. there were days when i wanted to give up because my characters just wouldn't do what they told me to or when i was frantically typing in an attempt to write 250 words in a minute so that i could meet the deadline. but in the end, i made. i reached 50,000 words. and i am proud of myself.

did you know...

you can't buy the beatles on iTunes??? doesn't that seem oddly messed up and unfair to you??? it's the beatles for goodness sakes...not allowing on iTunes is a crime...and it's all EMI's fault...Paul Mc Cartney is willing to let the Beatles be on iTunes...
although, i guess it's a good thing. my mother always complains that iTunes is destroying cds and record stores and whatnot...i'm actually rather conflicted about the whole beatles thing.
i like iTunes. i only use it for the free songs(they had Christmas songs! i love christmas songs!) and for the weird iTunes radio...but i don't really buy stuff from iTunes anymore. considering i only have fifty four cents left.

male celebrity for this post: james roday. he plays shawn spencer on "psych" and is amazing...it's not so much that he's cute but that his character has an amazing personality. also, he is one of the funniest tv actors out there(hugh laurie is a little more funny). two of my friends got into a fight over which one of them he'd like better...long story...

10,000

o.m.g.
i am so close to finishing nanowrimo. i have just over 10,000 words left...that is almost nothing... i remember when i had over 30,000 words left and i thought i'd never finish the thing. but now i think i will finish it. and as much as i love it, i'm kind of getting sick of my attempted novel. why can't my characters do what i want them to? it's not that hard. sometimes, i'm tempted just to give up and let kayla and del and aaron and all the rest just run rampant in my imagination. and then i realize that by doing that, i will have given up. and i don't want to give up on something this amazing...i'm going to finish this novel, even if it kills me.
and the lovely thing is that i have until next sunday to finish it. and i can easily write the remaining 10,000 words by next saturday. now i'm getting all anxious...
cheers!

new topic...

okay. thanks to one of my anonymous commenters, i have something to talk about. myself.
basically, i was born in los angeles on the same day as my sister catherine(duh!). i lived in los angeles until i was about two and a half. then, we moved up to northern california. we lived in ladera for a few months. then, we lived in menlo park from when i was three until i was around seven. right before second grade we moved to woodside. and that's where i've lived ever since. it only took a few years to get used to living in the middle of the wilderness(kidding, woodside isn't that remote). but now i love woodside, even if i complain about it all the time.
um....what else can i say about myself...my favorite color is either light green or light grey(as my roommate in england discovered pretty quickly). i want to live on the east coast when i grow up. i want to go to Williams for college. and i want to become a published novelist, hopefully before i'm thirty. um...my favorite thing to have for dinner would be macaroni and cheese. um...can't think of anything else to say...

house of bernarda alba

so...i went to see the upper school play, house of bernalda alba. it was absolutely amazing.
to quickly summarize: house of bernalda alba(hoba) is about a mother and five daughters in mexico. the father of the family has died. the eldest daughter is engaged. the youngest daughter loves her sisters fiancee. the mother abuses the daughters.
sound bleak? it is. i don't think there was one moment that made me want to laugh because it was funny. maybe because i felt uncomfortable. but not because it was funny. but even so, hoba was amazing. after watching it, i really began thinking about some of the issues it brings up.
i would really suggest seeing it if you haven't already. the cast and crew did an amazing job and even if you don't like bleak stuff, go see it. please.

apology #2

i'd like to apologize for some of my posts about twilight. people were saying how it seemed i was making fun of people who liked twilight. i wasn't trying to do that. there are entire websites devoted to that.
how about this for a deal: i don't talk about twilight. you guys don't talk about twilight/ask me why i don't like it. that might keep fighting down to a minimum.
extra51
ps. see "o brother were art thou." best move ever.

the host

let me just clear the air. i don't hate everything by stephenie meyer. i liked her book "the host". hopefully, she won't write a sequel to it because i loved the way it ended.
why did i like the host? hmm...let me see...the plot was very engaging and was cool twist on the whole bodies-being-invaded-by-aliens things. and it had a pretty good love triangle-thing going on. and i loved the characters, especially the two romantic interests(jared and ian). why? because they were really realistic and easy to relate to...and nothing says romance like giving a girl Cheetos(note: i'm being serious)
since i'm bored, i decided to cast the host. here goes...
melanie: carey mulligan. she would be so perfect. not even kidding. look her up if you haven't heard of her
ian: i was thinking jj fields...he was so great in northanger abbey...or maybe james d'arcy. also a good actor. or maybe even jake gyllenhaal(but he might be too old).
jared: rupert penry-jones. no questions asked. or maybe dominic cooper(from the duchess/mama mia)
jamie: thomas sangster. most adorable kid. ever.
uncle jeb: not sure....
the seeker: sophia myles. she's pretty in a very cold way. or christina ricci.
kyle: i can only see hugh jackman playing him.
doc: hugh laurie. i know it's so stereotypical, but it'd be so good. hugh laurie is really talented.
this all i have cast wise. what do you think?

clarifications

random stuff that's been bugging me/needs clearing up:
1. since when is michael cera indie??? i think most people know who he is...
2. josie maran in this model who went to my school...most casti girls would understand...
3. i know that the name of the guy who played cedric diggory
4. this isn't a clarification but i read this doctor who fansite and all these rabid fangirls were like "omg... r-patz should be the next doctor. or maybe zac efron..." if that happens, i will fly to cardiff and stab steven moffat and rtd with a spoon. i refuse to have my favorite show corrupted like that...the season 4 finale was upsetting enough...
5. i was freaking out that my main character in my nanowrimo was a mary sue so i took the official "mary-sue" test...guess what??? kayla is safe from being a mary sue...i was very relieved. for those of you who don't know, mary sue's are characters who are nauseatingly perfect.
6. i'm not seeing twilight because i refuse to spend money on a movie that i have no interest in seeing. not because it's going against the flow. i learned that just because lots of people are seeing a movie doesn't mean it's any good(potc is good example). frankly, i'd rather see "milk" or "frost vs. nixon" or "the road"
7. i should start working on my history/english essays. oh joys.
8. good luck to everyone in "house of bernalda alba". i'll be there on friday supporting you.
extra51

okay. i'm a loser.

yes. it's true. i'm not going to see twilight. that is official. instead, i shall be going to see my school's play on friday night. and on saturday and sunday, i shall be at fencing competitions and watching tv(i have two new doctor who confedentials...) and honestly, i have a feeling that after this weekend, it's not going to be as big...
i'm still mad at twilight. despite what warner bros says, i blame them for why harry potter isn't coming out until the summer and why the road isn't coming out until at least 2009. and for why james bond won't be king of the box office like it deserves. and why no one will want to watch milk. honestly. who'd want to see a movie about one of the most important men in san francisco and political history who gets killed because of his sexuality(among other things) when they could be watching a movie about a girl who falls in love with a vampire?
personally, i shall be working on nanowrimo and watching all the milk trailers. and maybe seeing james bond again.

odyssey cast

fine...i'll cast the odyssey...by the way, when i refer to the actor who portrays edward cullen as "cedric diggory" it is because i refuse to call him a ridiculous and pointless nickname like "spunk ransom". actors should be called by their real names(ie. billie piper, kate winslet, george clooney etc.) or by their screen names. but not some ridiculous nickname.
on to the odyssey cast...
odysseus: this one was very hard. i ended up going for robert downey jr./rufus sewell. both of them can look really wheathered if they need to/have these incredibly deep eyes...
penelope: rachel weisz. amazing actress. looks just like what i pictured penelope to look like.
telemachus: another hard one...i'm in between harry lloyd who is amazing. and michael cera, who has the awkward teen thing down perfectly...if only thomas sangster was old enough...he'd be amazing
athena: kate blanchette. must you ask?
the suitors: i was thinking that russell brand/richard armitage could play the two main obnoxious suitors. russell could be alkinoos and richard could be the other one...
kirke: angelina jolie. another obvious one.
calypso: josie maran...
eurykleia: helen mirren. amazing actress. would be perfect
nausikaa: ellen page/olivia thirlby
i think that's all the main characters. if i left out someone hugely important, tell me. also, tell me what you think of this cast...i know it's not as good as the twilight cast, but i tried

the lovliness of not having facebook

i'll admit it. i miss facebook a bit. it feels weird not to go on to my home page on facebook the second i get home from school and turn my computer. but at the same time it's really relaxing. i don't need to worry about what's going on in the cyber world quite as much as i used to. i mean, i need to worry about what i say on this blog, but not having facebook gives me one less thing to stress out about. although i do miss pieces of flair.
and on the plus side, i won't have to listen to people squealing about the "twilight" movie on friday. i already know that there's no way on earth that i'm going to see it. yes. i know that makes me a totally weirdo and loser. and if i was on facebook, i'd be reminded of that even more.
i used to like twilight. before they made a movie. with cedric diggory. and before breaking dawn was published. and before fanpires came around. actually, i like "the host" much better. it had a pretty original plot and much more likeable characters.
but what i really hate is when people say stephenie meyer is the next jk rowling. jk rowling is a god who has proved that some books(but not all) should be over 600 pages and that some books can have sub-sub-sub-sub plots(but not all). and plus, the harry potter movies are awesome...even if harry is totally annoying in the fifth one. plus, jk rowling comes up with the best couples(ron/hermione and tonks/lupin). and she's not afraid to kill major, popular characters off ala severus snape and remus lupin and sirius black. maybe if stephenie meyer had killed off alice/jasper(who were the only two likeable characters in the series), i'd like her a lot more. who knows. maybe if she writes another sci-fi novel.
wow...that was a huge rant...better get back to my nanowrimo...

thanks....but no thanks

a lot of you have asked me to maybe give my dream cast for my novel. sadly, i won't be doing that for two big reasons.
1. if it ever gets published and made into a movie, it won't be for a few years, so all my ideas as to who should play who will be too old.
2. all the main characters are teenagers. i have no wish to see my characters being corrupted and portrayed by the likes of disney channel stars, who would most likely play them.
sorry...i guess i won't be making up a cast for it anytime soon.
however, if you want me to cast other books into movies, give me suggestions.

just to clear something up

okay. so people have been asking me where my facebook has gone. here's the answer:
my parents wanted me to delete because they felt i wasn't using it appropriately. and you know what? they were totally right.
so. they had me disactivate. and actually, not having a facebook is very relaxing. i don't spend as much time online or as much time worrying about what's going on on facebook. it's helped me take a step back from technology and work on other things(nanowrimo).
but don't worry. i might get my facebook back eventually, but in the meantime, if you want to talk to me, either try to do so in person or email me.

twilight cast

i was feeling bored this morning. so i watched the trailer for "twilight" and started feeling really depressed about the horrible casting decisions. so, i decided to make my own cast, if i had the power to make such important decisions.
so. here it is:
bella swan- kat dennings(she was nora in "nick and norah's infinite playlist". she looks exactly what i imagined bella to look like. and she's a great actress. double plus.)
edward cullen-this one was really hard. i wanted to have henry cavill be edward because he would be perfect. but he's too old...in which case, ed westwick("gossip girl") would be good. just as long as it isn't cedric diggory.
jacob black- steven strait(i know he's a bit old to be playing a younger jacob, but he'd be amazing as older jacob).
carlisle- jesse spencer(blonde, gorgeous, has already played a doctor before...)
esme-anne hathaway(when i first found out they were making a movie, i could only see esme being played by her)
alice- olivia thirlby(she might not look like alice, but they can use makeup and stuff. she was really good in "juno" and has the right attitude)
emmett- kellan lutz(i actually agreed with this casting decision)
rosalie- olivia wilde/megan fox(both have the right look, even if they aren't blonde. once again, wigs and makeup can be used)
jasper- trent ford(he has the right look. plus, stephenie meyer said that who she wanted to play jasper. that must count)
james-cillian murphy(does anyone remember him as the scarecrow in "batman begins"?)
victoria- another hard one...i have no idea who should play her.
laurent-john stamos/jason isaacs
charlie-bill campbell.
so. what do you guys think? any other movies i should attempt to mentally cast?

fine...

people have been asking about the novel i'm writing for nanowrimo, so i will explain a bit about the plot and post a small excerpt of it.
basically, the novel is about this girl named Kayla who's a sophmore in high school and about her life and stuff...pretty stereotypical and stuff. nothing that exciting. basically, 3/4s of it is told through Kayla's perspective. and the other 1/4...well, basically, Kayla's best friend Delilah wants to be an author so the other 1/4 is excerpts of the novel Delilah's trying to write...so it's kinda like i'm writing 2 novels. okay. here's the excerpt:
My cell phone rings.
"Hello? Might I ask who's-"
"Kayla? Where are you? I've been waiting for you for almost twenty minutes." It's Andrew. And he sounds pissed. That's rare. The last time he sounded so mad was when we found out who McCain's running mate is.
"Sorry. I had a track thing."
"And you couldn't have told me about it?" Andrew asks.
"I found out about it during lunch."
"And you couldn't have told me about it?" Andrew repeats. I can't help but wincing. He does have a point.
"I'm sorry. Look, I didn't mean to forget."
"Okay. It's fine." Andrew doesn't so much sound pissed as upset. In some ways, that's even worse. I hate it when I make Andrew upset. He gets all quiet and doesn't really talk much. It's awful.
"Do you want me to still come over? I should be home by half an hour."
"Um…"
"Come on, Andrew. You can't honestly expect me to let you watch Burn Gorham all on your own. What kind of friend would I be if I did that?" I wait to hear Andrew's laugh. Nothing. Crap.
"I'll ask my mom. Maybe you could come over after dinner."

i hope you like it! tell me what you think

halfway done...

just a quick note. i have officially reached 25000 words and am halfway done with nanowrimo...i can't believe it. the novel is going quite well and is about 55 pages, single spaced. i've been having so much fun writing it. but now i should probably go to sleep b/c it's quite late.
extra51

the novel

so. here is the plan regarding my nanowrimo novel.
1. i'm going to finish it. or attempt to get to 50,000 words and to an ending.
2. i'm going to get rid of the truly awful bits.
3. i'm going to give it to a few close family members/friends to read it.
4. i'm going to post it.
so yeah. don't expect to get to read it until december 2008/january 2009. and if you do get to read it, it'll be a very very rough draft. just so everyone knows the plan.
extra51

quantam of solace

so...i saw the new james bond movie. it was absolutely amazing...you know how for a bit, the batman movies were kind of made fun of(i'm thinking the one with george clooney and the unfortunate bat suit) and then christopher nolan comes along and makes batman begins/the dark knight? that's kind of how i felt with the james bond movies... they were nothing amazing, fun to watch, but didn't have amazing characters/plot lines. and then casino royale comes along and is amazing. and then quantam of solace...
i have a strong feeling that a lot of people won't love q of s(as i like calling it) because it's a lot about the inner turmoil james is going through and not just random explosions(although there are plenty).
but you should all go see it at least once.

so...the week's almost over

wow...this has been a pretty crazy week...on so many levels...
1. thanks to everyone who's commented on the last few posts...it means so much.
2. nanowrimo is going amazing...i've managed to get ahead of the word count i need to be on. which is good because i won't have much time this weekend, which is my main writing time. i'm trying to hit 25000 words by tomorrow afternoon and i'll be halfway there! kind of exciting and a little scary...
3. this weekend is so totally packed for me. on saturday, i have this thing called ludi. ludi is basically this latin convention for latin students. you take a few tests and can go to workshops and play games and certamen(this latin jeopardy thing). i know it sounds weird, but ludi can be pretty fun. i haven't gone for a few years and i'm actually pretty excited. and then on sunday, i have a fencing competition up in berkley. should also be fun, if a little long. but fencing competitons are always long. i'll just get homework done during it.
4. um...i'm starving. and i'm trying to keep from going into the kitchen and eating one of the totally delicious brownies my mom made...someone distract me from my stomach!
5. my new contacts came which means i won't have to wear glasses again, which is good b/c they gave me a huge headache.
6. chommondley is good, but xerxes is temporarily missing, which is a problem.

response to "apology"

i was really interested to read people's responses to my post "apology". i thought it was interesting how the second person to respond to "offended by anonymous 2" (do you guys have to all use 'anonymous' as your name?) said that other people can't tell you who or what you are. that's a good point. we decide who we are. we have to defy the label's of others...that's something i need to work on.
and "offended by anonymous 2": you're right. if you need to say something mean about someone, first off, don't try to say it. but if you have to, don't say it in a place where everyone can see/hear. i made that mistake and now i really wish i hadn't.
and a huge thank you to whoever said that by apologizing, i was really sorry. i really appreciate it.
i love all my reviewers so much. thank you.

the infamous novel...

some of you have expressed interest in getting to read the novel i'm writing for nanowrimo. i might put it up.
but as a warning: it is BAD. the point of it is just to write it and not care about how it sounds. so if it sucks, don't be too harsh in your criticism.
and i know that the dialouge sounds really fake most of the time. i haven't had much practice talking to guys, so i don't know how to write guys talking...and i know bits of it are pretty unrealistic/cheesy. just deal. it's not like i'm a published author.
extra51

apology

i'm willing to admit it. i've said pretty bad things about people on facebook. honestly, i think everyone who has a facebook most likely has at one point or another. i mean, you can always delete what you said and no one will be the wiser. not really. it never goes away and you look and feel awful.
i'd just want to apologize to all the people i've hurt through facebook. i'm pretty sure that i didn't mean over 90% of all the bad stuff i said. but the people i hurt didn't know that. i just want to say sorry.
i think all of us are guilty of this at one level or another. and even though this sounds totally cheesy and stupid, i really wish we all could get along. but thanks to human nature, that's impossible.
once again, i'm sorry for all the people i've hurt, even if i didn't mean to. i hope you guys will all understand how awful i feel about it now, especially after hearing how upset other people are.
i'm so sorry.
amelia

weirdness

by the way, did anyone catch that today's 11/11. how weird is that? i can't wait for it to be 11/11/11.

nanowrimo and pumpkin spice lattes

so...i haven't really been writing that much lately...there's a fairly good reason for that...remember how i said it was weird that i had almost no homework lately??? well, it turns out i had a right to be worried...they are dumping the homework on us by the ton...i have an english essay, history essay, major art project, tons of math problems...and i'm sure a lot of you are in the same boat(never got that expression).
and there's another reason. it's nanowrimo right now. for those who don't know, nanowrimo stands for national novel writing month. basically, you try to write 50,000 words(which is obviously a novel...) by novemeber 30. i've written about 19500 words...it's pretty fun, but kind of stressful...
last little thing: has anyone had the pumpkin spice lattes from starbucks??? most amazing drink. ever. go drink one if you haven't yet.

garlic pizza

oh my god...i had the most amazing thing for dinner last night. four words. round table's garlic pizza. it was the most amazing thing ever. it's basically, cheese, bread, meat, tomatoes and garlic sauce. i was in heaven while i was eating it, even though i had to brush my teeth for ten minutes afterwards so i could the taste of garlic out my mouth...but it was so worth it.
usually, i hate round table's pizza. but then, every once in a while round table actually makes a somewhat good type of pizza. like the amazing garlic pizza. or this thing called "wombo combo" which is basically cheese, bread and meat...so good...
personally, i like either pizza express or spot's pizza the best. the problem is that pizza express is only in the u.k. which is too bad because it is sooo good...and they have the best garlic bread stuffed with motzrella ever. i know it sounds nasty, but it is the best thing. ever. and then there's spots...spot's is this pizza place in palo alto. usually i hate the crust on pizza, but the stuff on spot's is amazing. and they have the best pesto pizza(instead of tomato sauce, it has pesto sauce).
great. now i'm hungry.

not so normal saturday

i am in love. with saturday. i am so glad that today was a saturday...i was actually able to somewhat sleep in. well, until my sister came into my room to ask me if i wanted to watch ugly betty...which we did. and then we watched four straight episodes of doctor who confidential...which involved a lot of yelling along the lines of "omg! david tennant!" and "blow it up!"...
i wish i could say that the rest of saturday so far has been very restful, but sadly, i'd be lieing. there was an incident with a dvd that was stuck in chommondley that had to be pulled out in a very complicated manuever involving a paper clip and quite a bit of chapstick...both the dvd and chommondley seem to be all right...
aside from that, and some screaming from my sister and father that has something to do with some soccer game, saturday's been pretty good. once again, i have barely any homework which i can't help but find a little suspicious...

daniel v.

i'm so happy...i got to see daniel v. from project runway speak tonight. he was probably my favorite designer on the show. ever. and anyone with any sense knows he should have won season 2 and not chloe... his designs were definitly the best.
listening to him talk was really interesting. i already know that i could never be a designer since i have no artistic ability whatsoever. but i'd really love to maybe edit a fashion magazine. i love getting to look at what designer's are doing and thinking about whether or not i like them and how fashion editors get to choose what to put in their magazines. it's a really interesting process in my opinion. i'm really interested in journalism as well, which means i could always get a job writing for a magazine if editing fails...
regardless, getting to meet daniel was amazing. he was a great speaker and i had tons of fun...
what is my father doing with a guitar??? it's really weird sounding...

in response

someone sent me a link to a website about a christian view about gay rights. some parts of it i agreed with. the bit were it says that all humans should be treated equally came to mind. but the bit were it said that people can choose to be gay/lesbian really made me mad. i read in some science magazine that there was a study that proves over 80% of people are bisexual to some degree and don't even realize it. you can't choose to be gay. it's not like one day you wake up and think: "hm...i think i'm only going to like people the same gender as me and be discriminated against." honestly, if people could chose to be homosexual, do you really think anyone would put themselves through that? and it also was saying that people who have two parents of the same sex miss out on a normal childhood and are more likely to become homosexual. excuse me? studies have proved that children raised by two poeple of the same gender are more likely to be more tolerant and are just as likely to be homosexual as a child raised by a hetro couple. and the article also said that same sex couples are more likely to be unhappy than hetro couples. well, you'd be unhappy too if people were discriminating against you left and right...
and honestly, considering that over 50 percent of all marriages that church likes fail, maybe it's time to try something new.
extra51

epiphany

so...the big anti-gay thing in the bible can be found at leviticus 18:22. the exact passage is "you shall not lie with a male as with a woman; it is an abomination." well, it turns out that this passage was mistranslated. according to those people who study the bible for a living, the word that is translated "abonmination" actually means "a foreign practice". that's definitly a rather big mistake...are things wrong because other cultures do them??? no...it's totally annoying how a simple mistranslation can ruin so many people's lives.
and besides, people ignore a lot of the bible. we don't usually preform animal sacrafices or kill people who commit divorce. either, we should follow all of the bible or we should follow none of it. you can't just pick and choose.
let's hope prop 8 gets overturned soon
extra51

sigh...

the election is over so i basically have ran out of things to talk about. it was so much fun when i could give my opinions on politics/props and bash candidates i didn't like. and all that's over. except for prop 8. i really hope it'll be overturned. otherwise i will be mad. at least we still have gavin newsom on our side...i really would love to meet him...
what to talk about? in bhutan they crowned a new guy king. his coronation was really insane. his name is jigme khesar namgyel wangchuck and he is 28, which makes him the current youngest reigning monarch. pretty cool, no? his coronation is pretty insane. there are all this pictures of it on bbc. if you're interested the link is: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/in_pictures/7712451.stm. check it out. it's pretty cool. and sorry if you have to copy and past the link.

only read if you care about england

just a warning: this post is about stuff to do with english entertainment. DO NOT read if you're not interested in this topic. if you aren't interested in it and read it anyways and are completely bored, don't go whining about it in the comments section. it was your own fault.
now. on to the main article...
1. it's somewhat official. russell brand is coming to america. he's been signed on for at least three movies that should come out in the us in 2009, including a remake of the tempest with helen miren. if you don't like him, you better get used to him.
2. st trinian's should be coming out in the united states somewhat soon. and they are most likely making a sequel.
3. i saw a video that showed filming for the third season of torchwood. it was just people running around. the people in it were: jack and gwen, someone who i was assuming was ianto, and someone who i didn't recognize? could it be a new character/love interest for one of the main characters? maybe. and is torchwood going to be any good without tosh and owen? and with it becoming more family friendly?
4. right now, for the next doctor i either want it to be patterson joseph. after over 45 years, the doctor should be played by a minority. it could celebrate barack obama(supposedly steven moffat really likes him). or i want him played by james mcavoy. he's very talented and it could get american interest in the show.
5. the third season of robin hood is supposed to start in january on bbc(yes i watch it and have been waiting for it avidly). the producers have said nothing about will/djaq coming back, which would be too bad since they were my favorite characters. but richard armitage realized in an interview that guy has a sister and she'll be a character in this season. and jonas armstrong is leaving after this season.
if you have any information on any of these topics/questions you want answered, i'll try to find answers to the best of my ability.

disenchanted

seriously california??? seriously??? we known throughout the nation as one of the few states who actually care enough about human rights to allow everyone, straight or gay, to get married. and then we just turn right around and change our minds. how hypocritical and awful is that??? and i feel so bad for all those people who got married while marriage was actually legal. does anyone know if their marriages are still valid??? if they weren't, that would suck. imagine being married and then being told that your marriage doesn't count because the person you love is the same gender as you? how discriminatory is that?
i just read that prop 8 isn't officially passed and has to be reviewed by the california supreme court to make sure it doesn't violate any constitutional rights...and since the california supreme court was what made gay marriage legal in the first place, i bet they'll find that it violate rights. because prop 8 DOES violate basic rights. according to the equal protection clause, american citizens aren't allowed to be discriminated against. and this is definitly discriminating against our gay and lesbian citizens...
and even if it does pass, i'm sure that gavin newsom(the mayor of san francisco) will just pass out marriage certificates to same sex couples like he did in 2004. he did it in 2004. why can't he do it again?
hoping prop 8 won't pass somehow

little request

guys...
could everyone stop leaving comments under "anonymous"? you don't need to put down your real name. put down "rainbow" or something. it's just really tedious to be like "thank to the third anonymous who commented on...". it's really hard for me to keep track of who is saying what. let me repeat: you DO NOT have to use your real name. just don't all comment as anonymous. i'm sorry if it's hard, but it'd make it easier for me(and others) to respond to people's comments.
thanks.

a new era

i'm still in shock that obama won. i thought it couldn't happen because it seems almost too good to be true. but it's not because he won.
might i just say that i LOVED the speech he gave. it was amazingly eloquent and heartfelt and beautiful and it made me want to start crying...it was so good. i am so glad that america pulled itself together and did the right thing by voting for him. maybe we'll actually be respected in the international community. i really think things are going to change for the better. i'm actually excited for the future for once.
and also, let me just say, that his daughters are so adorable. i am so excited to have their be kids in the white house. there haven't been kids in the white house since kennedy. that is way too long.
and by the way, when i said the thing about respecting the people at my school who stood up and voted for mccain, what i meant was that i really respect people who stand up for what they believe in even if they are in the minority. i know that that is something i need to work on.
congratulations obama.

Oh. My. God.

it's official. barrack obama has been elected president of the united states. oh. my. god. barack obama is president of the united states!!! i'm crying. i cn't believe it. i'm crying.
i can't believe it. barack obama is the president of the united states. for the first time since 1963, we will have young children in the white house. i am slowly having my faith in humanity restored. now, if only prop 4 and prop 8 won't pass. then life would be perfect...
this is reminding me of martin luther king and john kennedy. they both were so young and completely changed america and american politics. he is the next martin luther king/john kennedy. except he won't die. he can't die. he has so much to do.
i'm suddenly proud of america. we had the sense to vote for barack obama. i think america will really change. i really think it will.
i'm really sorry for all the supporters of john mccain. i know you guys worked hard, but barack did win.

some last thoughts

the one thing that i hated about this election was all the negativity. in honor of that, i will say one thing positive/one thing negative about each canidate, just to prove that all the canidates have some good and bad in them.
1. obama. pro: he can inspire people amazingly well and he is the change we need. he has great economic/foregin/domestic policies. con: he has almost no expierence and what will happen when he makes a mistake?
2. mccain. pro: he's been in politics for over 20 years and knows the system really well. also, he has some pretty good immigration policies. con: he's anti-abortion and has voted the same as bush 90% of the time.
3. biden. pro: he has some pretty amazing foreign policies credintials and has lots of expierence, as well as an amazing smile. con: he misspeaks. a lot.
4. palin. pro: she is a really good communicator and can rally people very well. it's kind of amazing how far she's gotten. con: she uses her power in the wrong way and frankly, i don't like her or her policies.
the people i really feel bad for are 1. willow palin. willow is the middle palin child and i've read quotes by her and she feels really down to earth. too bad her mother/family is the nation's laughing stock. 2. i also feel bad for the people at my school who are pro-mccain/prop 8. my school is pretty liberal and pro-obama and pro-gay marriage and i think it's really brave of people to stand up and say that they disagree with the crowd and vote mccain in the mock election. good job guys. i wish i could be that brave.
more news on the election to follow.

quick note

just wanting to clear a few things up.
1. i am an obama supporter. i believe that he should be our president. HOWEVER, i don't think that mccain is the anti-christ. i have great respect for him. i just don't believe in everything he stands for. that is all. god. people need to learn that you can respect someone, but not like them.
2. i'd really like to thank all the people who've been standing up for me against nasty comments. i think it's really nice that you guys are doing that and i really really appreciate it, especially since i don't know who you are and can't thank you in person. so thank you.
3. i'd really like to thank the person(people) who wrote the positive comments on "dst" and "days off". you know who you are. reading them made me feel so happy. thanks so much...
my next post will most likely be about the election.
thanks for all the positive(and negative) feedback
extra51

one more day...

the election is tomorrow...i'm really really worried. i don't know why but i just can't obama actually becoming president. it seems too good to be true. but i also can't see mccain actually winning. maybe if he hadn't chosen sarah palin, things would be different, but...
did you all hear about obama's grandma. i think that's so sad. if she had lived 36 hours she might have seen her grandson be the first non-white president. so close, yet so far...
the one thing i'm terrified of happening is that prop 8 will pass. people should get to marry who they want to. and it never says exactly in the bible(to my limited knowledge) that marriage is the union between a man and a woman...
by the way, i did know that torchwood is an anagram of doctor who. what kind of whovian would i be if i didn't know that?
extra51

no title because i'm too lazy to think of one...

i just realized something...people who say other people are closed-minded are just as close-minded. i realized that from reading hundreds of comments related to videos about obama, mccain, harvey milk and gay marriage. and i have to admit, while i am still strong for gay marriage being legal, i've gained a little more respect for mccain, which would be great if he hadn't chosen sarah palin as a v.p., and i can see why people might find his policies attractive. does that make me close-minded? well, if that did, than a lot of my friends who i think are open-minded would be very close-minded. and personally, i think that not knowing that chinese is homophonic language does not make me closed-minded, like some people might think...okay this rant is over.
next topic: thanks to everyone who is saying that only nice posts should be published. that is a nice idea, but sometimes, i need the harsh criticism so i can learn what i'm doing wrong. a balance would be lovely: criticism that is about my style of writing/opinions on topics i write about and not criticism on my looks or personality. sounds good to everyone?
last thing: to all those whovians out there who read this...what do you think of the list bbc released as potential next doctors? i really patterson joseph gets it and becomes the first african-american doctor. although, james mcavoy would be fun as the doctor and could get american interest in the show...
that's all...i need to start getting ready for school.

wow...

i wrote a post around five/ten minutes ago and i got three comments...i don't think i've ever gotten so many comments so quickly...obviously i'm not the only person who is really really bored right now...
i'm sorry if i made a mistake with the french. i don't speak french. i take latin. i think i can say five words in french. maybe six. not quite sure...
to the second anonymous(the one who wrote two comments): i update as much as i can. the thing is, i sometimes have trouble thinking of things to say...which is why i don't update all the time...by the way, you're comments are really nice...
um...i also like it when "i love you" comments...but i can't control when they choose to comment or not. if you want them to comment, you can ask them nicely...

double meaning

do you know what is annoying?
the word for school in latin is also the word for games. games and school are nothing alike. in fact, they are polar opposites. so why would you have a word that has two completely opposite meanings??? it makes no sense. and also, the word to eat and to be are the same word...that could cause some complications
it's like in french that means nightclub and box...which is really weird...
whoever invented language/came up with the vocab/whatever is really weird and had some major issues...
i actually don't even know why i'm writing this blog at the moment...i guess i'm just antsy from waiting for the election...

prank calls

as you might know, i've been following the election through "election 2008" on bbc. i've been using bbc to get a somewhat non-biased view on politics. fine. they are a little anit-bush...and today i learned the most genius thing...
basically, sarah palin was pranked called by this canadian comedian named marc antoine audette or something who pretended to be the french president...and she believed him. they talked about carla bruni and he asked her if they'd like to go on a hunting trip. she said yes and that she'd be a better shot than cheney...she also said that she'd like to try to be president in eight years...that is an interesting thought...
i'm not really sure what i think of prank calls. yes, they can be funny, like with sarah palin. but they can also cause all sorts of trouble. like with russell brand and how he has to resign from bbc. i think that russell brand just made a mistake and overstepped some boundraries. a lot of americans don't like him because he mocked teenager's obsessions with the jonas brothers/twilight, but he is really funny, especially in the movie st. trinians. i suggest you all look him up...it's totally worth it...

so close...

another my posts where i comment on my comments/ramble
1. thanks so much to everyone who helped me on the whole dst thing...since it only happens twice a year, i forget which is which...but it was so lovely having an extra hour of sleep. i needed it...
2. next week shall be...interesting...even though i have a history test tomorrow, i'll only be able to think about and get worried about the election...it's on tuesday...and i'm getting a bit stressed about it...
3. yes. i have friends...why do you find that so weird??
4. i am so excited for november 14...the new bond movie comes out then and i really really really want to see it. bbc has only given it great reviews and an actress i really admire is in it
5. remember how i was talking about my cousins and vegas??? turns out the four of us might be allowed to go to the adults...i'm super excited...it'll be my first time in vegas.
6. to the person who commented on "days off". what exactly are you implying?
7. to "i love you": you can keep commenting if you like. i don't mind.
i'm pretty proud of myself at the moment. i set up my homepage so that whenever there is new news about the election from bbc, a new window pops up...i'm so staying on top of this election. go obama...

dst

i had so much fun last night...it was my school's fddd(father-daughter dinner dance). basically, at the fddd, you get all dressed up, go to some nice hotel, eat dinner and dance with your friends/with your dad. it's always pretty fun. and the senior dads always do some dance to completely humiliate themselves.
the year, the theme was the oscars and they had all these cardboard cutouts, so we had tons of fun take pictures in weird poses with the cutouts. and now i'm totally exhausted from staying up until midnight for two days in a row. and my feet kind of hurt from the heels i was wearing last night, but i had so much fun, it was worth it.
however, daylight saving time(dst) happened today and now i'm kind of confused. am i supposed to be tired from losing an hour of sleep or awake from gaining an hour of sleep? i really don't get how dst works out. my friend lives in arizona and doesn't have to deal with it. lucky her. if any of you could explain how dst works and all that fun stuff, i'd be highly indebted.

homework(or lack of)

i feel like i haven't really had that much homework lately for some reason...it's kind of nice, but i have a feeling that that's going to change...
WAIT...it is. because i have a crazy amount of tests next week, including two quizzes in latin and a history test on monday that i probably should study for...it's so annoying...one week, i'll have no homework and plenty of time to check my facebook/watch youtube videos and then the next week i have major projects and/or tests in every single one of my subjects(not counting pe)...maybe i should just enjoy my lack of homework and not worry about what it means...
i finished making all my cupcakes for halloween. it took longer than i expected thanks to a lack of eggs, a broken timer and some miscalculations...
if anyone wants any cupcakes, i have about six/seven that i won't be needing anymore...

marcus zusak

the book thief is a good book. correction: it is one of the best books ever written. basically, it is about this girl named lisel who lives in a town outside of munich during world war two with her foster parents. her foster parents decided to take in a Jewish refugee named max. the whole book is all about growing up and losing things you love and falling in love. and to make it even more interesting, it's narrated by death.
when i first read the book thief, i skipped the long, slightly boring middle section and i had no idea what was going on in the ending. so i went back and reread it. and when i finished it, i was sobbing. i know that i cry at the end of a lot of books, but the book thief really really made me just want to curl up in a ball and bawl like a baby. the writing was so good and the ending was so bleak, but so uplifiting. i suggest that if you haven't read it, you should. and don't skip any of it.
so, yesterday, i was trying to find out what the author, marcus zusak, address is so i can write to him for advice on how to be good at writing and to see if he was going to be speaking near me soon. but it turns out he hasn't written anything since 2006, which is when he wrote the book thief. if any of you know a way to contact him, i'd love to know it, since i really do want to write to him

halloween

this year for halloween i'm not trick-or-treating or anything. i'm having a really good friend of mine come over and we're probably just going to eat candy and watch bad action movies. i'm kind of excited for that. i'm not really in mood for going out and asking for candy and all that fun stuff. i did that last year with a group of friends and we kept getting these weird looks from everyone we asked for candy from because obviously, when you are thirteen, it is not socially acceptable to trick-or-treat. so i doubt it's all right when you are fourteen.
actually, the whole idea of halloween isn't all that appealing this year...

cupcakes

i'm sort of feeling sickened by the thought of frosting for some odd reason. maybe because i'm going to have to make quite a few cupcakes tonight and i'm not looking forward to it. because i already know i'm going to eat tons of frosting because it's so good and then feel absolutely sick to my stomach. i was trying to explain halloween-o-grams to some of my fencing friends, but none of them really got it. i honestly should be used to that. i guess there are some casti traditions that people don't understand...
ugh...but frosting...the thought of it is making me feel a little queasy. i doubt that even funfetti will help...

tri-tip

just finished dinner and had the most amazing tri-tip steak ever. i'm not quite sure where my mom buys them, but they are amazing. the meat literally falls apart in your mouth. it is sooo good...i think the four of us ate almost 2 pounds. impressive, huh???
i had almost no homework tonight, so i'm thinking about maybe getting ahead in history/english/latin...
i know this is short, but once again, i have nothing of interest to say

days off

we don't have school today b/c the teachers need to write comments and such...which means i should be finding out how i did in the first quarter sometime around...let's see...mid-november. that's the problem with living in the middle of nowhere. you get everything in the mail a week after the people who live in civilization.
i have mixed feelings about not having school. when you have a day off, but no one else does, you can either 1. take advantage of that and go shopping/out doing fun stuff with all of your friends and not have to wait in any lines or something. or 2. sit around at home watching youtube videos/reading fanfic and being a total loser. i'm currently doing the second one. and i am bored out of my mind and am waiting for a video to load/reading gofugyourself.com/hoping someone will interact w/ me on facebook or something so i won't go insane. and in a few hours, i will need to begin worrying about starting all the homework i have to do...
it's almost as bad as being sick. b/c when you're sick, you lie in bed all day and relax and then watch tv for a few hours. but then at around 5, you realize that you missed a day of school and have to get all caught up...which is very annoying...
whatever...i'll go and stare at the amazing shoes i bought yesterday for the fddd or something to amuse myself

xerxes

the name for the computer is going quite well...i think it's name shall be chomondley. and my iPod will be called xerxes. i think...the names will probably change over time
i was once tried to watch the 300. i fell asleep after around ten minutes and was woken up an hour later by my insane friends chanting...but i did get to see the bit with xerxes...very interesting...
i will not be using the name grendel. bad experience from reading a very odd translation of beowolf. that epic poem is weird...the odyssey is better.
speaking of the odyssey, we have to do a project about the odyssey. and my group is writing a rap. it is pretty...interesting...sheep are quite a major part of it...
um...let's see...
the shoebox project is the most amazing thing ever. it will redefine harry potter and your life. not even kidding...

the opera

today, my class is going to the opera...oh joys...i'm actually kind of excited/anxious about what is likely to happen, especially since we may be getting cookies during intermission.
my mom was making listen to some music from the opera we're seeing(the elixer of love). it was...interesting. couldn't exactly understand what was going on b/c i don't speak french/italian fluently. at least at the opera there will be subtitles.
going to the opera reminds me of how last thanksgiving/new years(i forget which) my parents made me watch some french musical made in the 1960s with subtitles. it was the most pointless thing ever. and i'm still not sure why i sat through it.
i don't think the opera will be as bad. i've been to the opera before and it can be fun, especially if it's motzart. motzart's not half-bad. and my mom is taking us to see the most famous opera of all time or something this year...should probably start trying to get excited.

mealtimes on saturday

on the weekends, i eat meals at very odd hours. i usually don't eat anything for breakfast and then at around eleven/twelve, i stumble into the kitchen and find something edible and eat it. and then i am content until it's time to eat dinner, which can vary from night to night...
today, after reading another part in the shoebox project, which is amazing, i was really hungry so i went in the kitchen to have something to eat. and i had the most amazing thing ever...day old indian food heated up. there's this indian restaurent we get food from all the time. and when we get food, it's usually enough to last us for a few days. and sometimes, they give us free stuff, which is amazingly nice...i had no idea how amazing cold tandoori chicken could be...i was ripping it apart with my teeth like some sort of wolf. it was that good...seriously, i could eat cold tandoori chicken every weekend for breakfast for the rest of my life and be happy...

the things you learn in latin

latin is a pretty weird class. we sit around and learn how to say things like "the slave's blood splatters on the ground as he is torn apart by lions". and learn about roman food/weddings/how the romans sacraficed animals to the gods. it can be really really really boring sometimes, especially when we are conjugating endless verbs, but then we learned something kind of weird/sick/out of the ordinary and the class becomes a bit more bearable.
in the past two days, i found out that cleopatra married her younger brother. he was ten and she was eighteen. might just say that i am hugely glad that i do not have a little brother. and then we found out that julius ceasar's big rival, pompey, was caesar's son-in-law. b/c caesar had his fifteen/sixteen/underage daughter marry pompey who was fifty at the time...that would be like me marrying...i don't know...hugh laurie. except if hugh laurie wasn't hot. and finally, we learned, that the guy who killed caesar, brutus, might have been caesar's son. way to show the love. (yeah. we're reading about caesar right now in latin. is it that obvious???)

um...

so...i'm still trying to decide what to name my computer...i'm definitly going for chomondley(which is pronounced chum-ley)...it's a pretty cool name...i first heard of it from the jeeves books by pg woodhouse.
tonight, at dinner, i got yelled at by my sister because i did not know how tall boys who go to eton have to be to wear long pants(it's for my halloween costume). it turns out you have to be five four. i can not pass for five four, but honestly, it's just a costume...and then she yelled at me because i thought george orwell was a communist. turns out he was a socialist...and then i attempted to eat my dinner...and i had this mini cinnamon roll thing which my mom bought from trader joe's or safeway's or some market...it's so good...
i know this is random but i have nothing to talk about. somebody give me a topic...

political woes

okay...
so...right now, with the elections coming up, i'm really worried about 2 things.
1. that prop 8 would be passed. honestly. people who are gay are humans. they should be able to marry who ever they want. and besides, if prop 8 passes, will all those marriages be invalid? i think it'd be awful to get married and then a few months later, find out your marriage was invalid and have to move to another state. besides, if prop 8 got passed, it'd make california look really bad. we're the state that's always supposed to be ahead of the game. we're the state with the most hybrids(i think). how stupid would we look if allowed gay marriage for a few months and then just went back on our words?
2. i'm scared that mccain will win. why? because it probably will happen. there's some thing called the bradley effect where an african-american guy is winning in the polls before the election, but then ends up losing the election. and i have a bad feeling that that is what will happen in this election. and if mccain wins, we're kinda screwed. why? mccain is old. and it is pretty likely that he could die when he's in office. and then Sarah Palin will take over. and then we're really in trouble
if either of these two things happen, i'm thinking about giving up my american citizenship and moving to wales.
by the way, i'm thinking of naming my computer. i am in between CHUMONDLEY, GRENDEL and XERXES. which one should i choose? input would be awesome.

why next tuesday is likely to be intense

so...i really don't know what to talk about, so i'll just talk a bit about one of my favorite tv shows. house md.
i began watching in seventh grade because i'd be working in the family room and my mom would start watching, so i began watching it as well and it is really good...and this season is my favorite yet. and i'm really excited for next week's episode because it looks pretty intense and i have a really strong feeling that house and cuddy are going to kiss. i have been wanting house and cuddy to become a couple for a really long time and now they might...i do know they are going to kiss in an episode that's coming up, i just don't know which one yet...
another reason why tuesdays are intense: on tuesdays, my sister has guitar lessons. and during her lessons, my mom and i go to culture, which is this new frozen yogurt place on california avenue. and it's really good. like even more addicting that fraiche. and i think it's cheaper, but it might not be...i need to check that out...
oh. and read the good theif. it's this really good book my mom gave to me. it's all about this orphan kid who is trying to find out where he comes from. i just began it and i love it...

the problem right now is, i really don't know what to talk about...nothing all that interesting is going on. it was fun to write about the debates, but no they're over and it's a few more weeks until hte actual election. if anyone has any ideas of what i should talk about, could you tell me?

i had a good idea for this, but then i forgot it

i had a good idea as to what to talk about...but then i forgot what it was going to be. so i'll just ramble once again
1. they might make a doctor who movie. that makes me so excited. it might be hard to make it so that american audiences understand the plot-line, but that can be solved by introducing a new companion b/c the doctor tells his life story to all his new companions
2. tomorrow is friday. duh. but i'm so excited b/c this week has been really tiring for some reason and i really need the break
3. math. i totally get how to find the center of a rotation now. it is getting so easy for me. i'm really happy about that because i was having all this trouble with it...
4. culture. this new frozen yogurt place opened by my hairdresser's. it's the whole organic, sour yogurt thing like fraiche, but it's a lot smoother, which i like.
5. check out gofugyourself.com. it's these two women making fun of celebs bad taste in clothes. they are genius. and it makes you laugh.

the disney channel

this is going to make people mad. i can already tell. personally, i do not like disney channel. sure, it's fun to watch hsm with friends and make fun of it the entire time. but after being forced to watch the same hannah montana episode(with selena gomez in it) for almost two hours over iceland, i have really grown to despise the disney channel. i can understand why younger kids love it(my seven year old second cousin is a perfect example). and not everything that they made was that bad. high school musical was fine. until they decided to make sequels and have tons of other movies with the same plot lines. but i just don't get those adults who'd spend tons of money in order to see miley cyrus/jonas brothers sing live. and i really don't get that new show with dylan and cole sprouse(the suite life on deck). i watched one episode and felt ill. i think disney channel is fun to watch once in a while with your friends when you are super bored and nothing's on. some of the people are actually really talented and i bet will go really far. and then other's will get pregnant at 16 or be involved in a whole semi-nude photos on vanity fair cover scandal. it's just in my opinion, there are better shows out there that are just as good and funny and have just as more talent from young stars(skins is a pretty good example).
extra51

the final battle(debate)

so. the last of the debates was last night. i watched most of it. and almost fell asleep at some points. my main opinions.
1. what was up with the ties? both of them were striped, which is a look i never like. and what was up with wearing the opposite party's colors. very weird. but mccain's was worse thanks the odd thickness of the white stripes.
2. the whole negative campaign ads. i think obama made a good point that the huge amount of negative obama ads in mccain's campaign say more about mccain than obama. and they do. it makes it seem like that mccain thinks the only way to make himself look good is to make obama look bad. he'd look a lot better if he praised obama, instead of insulting him.
3. the smiles. in my opinion, a good president needs a good smile. even when he's really tense, obama manages to smile and seem somewhat relaxed. i think mccain was trying to imitate that. the thing is, mccain's smile reminds me of a troll. Come to my house, little children...I'm going to getcha...
4. the camera shots. no matter what angle the camera was shooting, you'd always see some guy's hand that was half cut off. i think it was the moderator's and it only went away during the close-ups...it was really annoying. i'm assuming that nbc/fox/cnn spend a lot of money filming the debates. couldn't they at least make sure that no people's hands appear to be cut off?
all in all, the debate was interesting. i think obama won by a bit, but only because he managed to make mccain/palin look bad for running all those obama is a terrorist ads. my highlight: when mccain was aked why palin would be a good president and had to think for a few minutes.

the best of the best

hercules is the best disney movie. no questions asked. there are no movies that come even close. trust me on this. i was once part of a two hour debate to find the best disney movie. and hercules won hands down. why is it so good? no idea. personally, i think it's because of the muses and pain and panic. they are the best supporting characters ever.
after hercules? sadly, the debate narrowed down the movies to 4 possible second places.
they are: aladdin, beauty and the beast, pocahauntus(already apologize for having no spelling ability) and mulan.
we couldn't decide which was the best out of those four. personally, i go for beauty and the beast. or aladdin.

the lovely family

so, i was talking to my cousin, carolyn, yesterday. and basically, our grandmother(the alive one) is turning seventy this january. and she and her twin sister are inviting the whole family to las vegas to party. well, everyone except my two cousins, my sister and me. way to make us feel loved.
and my cousin thought that we should somehow sneak on the plane and go to vegas and try to pass for 21. because of course, someone who barely hits five feet(me) would be able to pass for 21. maybe 12. but not 21. no way.
we decided instead, that either i should fly to illinois or that she should fly to california and hang out for a week and do all sorts of crazy shennagins.

grilled chese

one last little post...because it's not quite ten yet...
today's lunch was awesome. two words: grilled cheese. and tomato soup. before i began going to my current school, the idea of eating grilled cheese and tomato soup never occured to me. now, it's the only way i eat the sandwiches. ever. no joke. and not only was there grilled cheese, there was also that amazingly good yellow cake with white frosting. that cake is sinfully good. i had at least two and a half pieces, even though we technically should only have one(but it's not like anyone else is going to eat them twenty minutes into late lunch). and icing is delicious. even if everything tasted like cotton, it was good.
going to bed for real now.

period 5 geometry honors

this year, i managed to jump up a level in math from algebra 1 to geometry honors. it's been hard to maintain the math grade i had last year, which has lead to a few melt-downs and late night phone calls to my aunt who is a math teacher.
but overall, it's been so much fun...my teacher is really good and funny and this year is one of the first time i look forward to going to math. because it is so fun. we just sit around, eat candy, get off topic, hyperventilate and (sometimes) talk about the previous night's math homework. all in all, tons of fun.
at first i was afraid that everyone in my class would be super-smart and i'd look like a complete idiot and fail, but it's really fun and i'm doing better than i did last year in math
it's getting late and i should probably head to bed after doing a crazy hard problem...

the dentist

today, i had a dentist appointnment. it was just the usual check-up thing. so of course, i spent around ten minutes this morning brushing my teeth and flossing and all that fun stuff.
the actual check-up wasn't so bad. just the usual x-rays and being taught how to brush. you'd think that they'd realize that a girl who's been brushing for 11 years would know how to operate an electric toothbrush...obviously not. but the good news is that i still have no cavities! that is the one good thing about my teeth. they never have cavities.
the bad news is that at my dentist they are using a new type of flouride. the old type was all foamy and tasted like grape and was the type that meant that you couldn't eat/drink for half an hour. the new type is literally varnish that they paint on your teeth. it tastes totally nasty and makes your teeth feel like cotton. and then, as it dries, it turns brown and begans coming off which makes you look like your teeth are rotting or something. it's nasty...
i love you: how do i know you aren't just one of my friends playing a trick on me?

the e!

so...one night when we were in los angeles, my mom had to go somewhere and left my sister and i alone in our hotel room with a tv and a remote control. needless to say, bad idea. we spent a lot of time flipping through other channels. we watched about five minutes of this show called "queer as folks" on lifetime or something. i had no idea what was going on, but it seemed pretty good.
then we watched a bit of animal planet. did you know that argentine ants make up the largest swarm on earth? i bet than any day, they will choose to kill us all...*cue scary theme music*
i saw a bit of the daily show for the first time. john stewart is a genius. and i don't like stephen colbert as much for some weird reason.
and then, being the teenagers that we are, we watched the E! for a bit. at first it was just the usual...celebrity gossip, fashion mistakes, making fun of stupid reality tv stars(cough, paris hilton, cough). all in all, good fun. and i learned something very interesting...but i forgot what it was, being the genius that i am
by the way, check out gofugyourself.com. it's pretty funny

dreams

okay...so, i had this crazy-weird dream last night. it was kind of half a dream, half a nightmare. it started off being all cool and avatar-esque and then it ended up being really really creepy. whenever i have a nightmare and the scary stressful part is about to happen, my brain decides to not let the dream keep going but instead to obsess over every little detail of the dream. it's really annoying because i will be like "what's going to happen next?" but my brain is like "hm...what color is the jacket is the evil elvis attached to the giant harry spider wearing?"
yes. my average nightmare involves evil elvis attached to tarantulas or being chased around parent's bathroom by a panther while my classmates look on or fighting demons with the jonas brothers. the last one was really scary...
and a lot of my dreams involve tv shows. the one i had a few nights ago was all about me helping a desginer on project runway design summer-wear. and i had this other one where i was in an episode of "house". the worst bit though, is when i have a nightmare, i can't go to sleep right away or it'll keep going, but with my good dreams, they just end at a certain point and won't come back

ramble

i really don't have anything specific i'm going to talk about in this post. i think it'll just me rambling for a bit...i don't know. i'm pretty bored since i've done all of my homework except for this essay i really really don't want to do.
um...let me see...
i'm totally jealous of my friend because she got to go down to nevada to convince independents and democrats who hadn't voted for a bit to vote for barack obama and she said that it was really fun. it sounds like tons of fun. i really want barack obama to become president for so many reasons that i really wish i could take her place...
i saw "nick and norah's infinite playlist" this weekend. i liked it fine, i just felt like that certain things went on a little too long/weren't really important to the plot. and i thought it'd be way more interesting if the movie ended after nick went one way with tris and norah went the other way with tal. but overall, it was good movie. michael cera and kat dennings are really good...
i got this really cute t-shirt that says "to kill a mockingbird" on it b/c tkam is one of my favorite books ever since we read it last year in english. and i got a pedicure and my toenails are bright, bubblegum pink and really cute and i wish i could wear flip-flops to school...
that's all for now

back at home(at last)

i'm back from my trip to l.a. which was half-fun, half-sucky. the fun bit was going shopping(i got this super cute little black day dress) and getting to see my family/a really good friend. and when i saw that friend, she told me that she checks my blog everyday for updates. that made me feel incredibly loved. and of course ordering room service and getting to go swimming on a rooftop pool that over looks the whole city is always fun.
the sucky bit, of course, was going to my grandmother's memorial and crying my eyes out in front of a bunch of old people who i'd never met before. that was really not fun. oh and having to sleep on one of the most uncomfortable beds ever wasn't so great. my neck is a giant ball of pain because of it.

the mysterious club sandwich

a few weeks ago, i was having lunch with my family and i was trying to figure out what to order. and there was something really weird with the menu. you could either get a club sandwich or a jr. club sandwich. the only difference was that the jr. club had less stuff in it. but the really weird thing was that the jr. club sandwich cost more than the club sandwich, even though it was smaller. what is up with that? does that mean that my twin sister is worth more than me because she is smaller? in the end, i just got the club sandwich and pulled out some of the excess turkey and bread, but i was still quite disturbed.

flip-flops

i am an idiot. that is official. so, on tuesday night, i was packing for my trip for los angeles and spent ten minutes trying to find my favorite pair of flip-flops(they have the california flag on them and are pretty cool). and i made sure to put them in a really obvious place so i'd remember to put them in my bag in the morning. but then, being the little idiot that i am, i totally forgot to put them away. i realized that when i was unpacking last night. and i also realized that i didn't bring any socks because i thought it'd be wearing flip-flops for my entire trip. so now, i either have to make a pair of socks last four days without being washed, which i don't want to do because it'd be nasty, or i have to wear tennis shoes without socks...neither option is too appealing. whatever. it serves me right for being an idiot.

just some random clarifications/other stuff

1. sadly, this year, the school admin has decided to make spirit week "less competive". which was really annoying because the whole point of spirit week was to have everyone just up exactly alike in crazy costumes and run around the circle. and this year, it was all about building "school-wide bonding" and "eliminating stress" or something like that. i feel bad for all the new kids. they missed out.
2. i know that hospital doors all sometimes soundproof. the poem i wrote about hearing someone scream in the hospital isn't meant to be taken literally. it's a poem about how i was feeling. honestly.
3. might i just say how i'm actually liking history again? we're learning about the slave trade, which is a subject i find fascinating. actually, anything that has to do with politics and social issues from europe(mostly england) in the 1600s-1900s is interesting in my opinion.
4. i love my uggs. my feet were really sore from fencing, so i put my uggs on and i felt so much better.
5. on bbc, they had this story about how they found a really old copy of the bible. the oldest known copy. and how it was really different that the bible we use now. there was nothing in it about jesus's ressurection/going up to heaven and jesus was sometimes protrayed as very cruel. interesting, no?

competitions

i had to go to a fencing competition on saturday. don't get me wrong. i love to fence. and competitions are usually really fun, especially when a bunch of your friends go and everyone gets there early and you sit around and talk.
but this competition was kind of off. it was an open competition which meant anyone below a certain ranking could go to it, which means it's not just people in your age group. and then a few of my friends didn't show up and one of them was supposed to bring a camera and stuff. and then all my foils and things started failing and i kept getting penalized and loosing points...all in all, i didn't do a great job.
but i still had fun hanging out with one of my really good friends, which was nice, especially since she lives up in san francisco and i don't always get to see her...and i got to meet some other fencers my own age. that's the best bit about competitions besides hanging out with your friends. you get to meet more fencers your own age...
i'm busy watching avatar which is an amazing show...and then it'll be time for dinner.

the epic battle part 2

given what sarah palin did on the katie couric interview, i was expecting her to say something like that pakistan and israel were the same country in the debate. so i was pleasently suprised when she didn't do that bad of a job.
my personal opinions on the debate
1. why is everyone unable to pronounce "iran" "iraq" and "nuclear". is that like a requirement or something if you want to run for high ranking governmental office? because it's not that hard to pronounce any of them...
2. sarah palin's eyelashes and biden's teeth. biden's teeth are like scary white. and palin's eyelashes look kind of painted on. you notice those things when you see their faces in close up for an hour and a half.
3. who thought it was totally sad/cute that biden got all choked up when he was talking about his dead wife? i had a total "oh. poor guy. i feel so sorry for him" moment. very well done.
4. sarah palin's hair. the entire debate i was wondering how palin was wearing her hair. it was kinda a braid, but not really.
5. i had no idea that obama was anti-gay marriage...very distressing.
